Cincinnati is located on the Ohio River at the Ohio Kentucky border. Cincinnati is Ohio's third largest city with a population of 332,460, behind Columbus and Cleveland, and the 56th largest city in the US.

Cincinnati is considered to have been the first major American boomtown with major growth in the early 19th Century. Cincinnati was the first major American city found inland and some think of it as the first true American city as it doesn't have as much European influence as the east coast American cities do. As time went on however, Cincinnati's growth slowed and many other inland cities surpassed Cincinnati's population.
Cincinnati is home to major sports teams including the Cincinnati Reds and the Cincinnati Bengals. Cincinnati is also host to major sporting events like the Cincinnati Masters, and the Thanksgiving day race which is the second oldest race in the country behind the Boston Marathon.

Cincinnati was founded in 1788 by John Cleves Symmes and Colonel Robert Patterson. Surveyor John Filson named it "Losantiville" meaning "the city opposite the mouth of the Licking River."
In 1790, Arthur St. Clair, the governor of the Northwest Territory, changed the name of the settlement to "Cincinnati". It was named after the "Cincinnati Society" which honored General George Washington, who was compared to Cincinnatus, the Roman general who saved his city.
Cincinnati is home to many descendants of revolutionary war heroes that were given land in Cincinnati after the war.
In 1802, Cincinnati was made into a village and David Ziegler, a Revolutionary War veteran, became the first mayor. Cincinnati was named a city in 1819.
The city grew to 114,000 people by 1850.
