Supermodel, Cindy Crawford

Everyone has their personal favorite supermodel, and there are a lot of beautiful women to choose from, but mine has always been Cindy Crawford. In the late 80's and through the 90's, Cindy seemed to be everywhere, from the cover of just about every magazine, to movies, music videos, workout videos, hosting tv shows, and spokeswoman for several products. For a Cindy Crawford fan, that was a wonderful time.

Cindy Crawford beginnings

CindyCynthia Ann "Cindy" Crawford was born in DeKalb, Illinois on February 20, 1966. Cindy was actually discovered while working in a cornfield, when a newspaper man snapped a photo of her. She was just 16 at the time. This lead her to enter the Elite Model Management's Look of the Year contest, in which she placed runner-up. Cindy graduated from DeKalb High School in 1984, as valedictorian. Cindy had won a scholarship to study chemical engineering, however after one quarter at Northwestern University, she dropped out to pursue modeling full time.

Modeling Career

Cindy Crawford

In 1986, Cindy moved to Manhattan was signed with the Elite New York modeling agency. Her modeling career took off and soon she was gracing magazine covers all over the world. Standing at 5'9", with long brown hair and brown eyes, and her trademark mole above her lip, she was the perfect woman at the perfect time to kick off a new era of supermodels, with Cindy being the queen of them all!
In 1988, Cindy posed for some very artistic photos for famed photographer, Herb Ritts, for the July 1988 issue of Playboy, also landing on the cover of that issue.

Cindy in the 90's

Cindy Crawford

In the late 80's and through the 90's, Cindy was the spokeswoman for several companies, most notably, Revlon, Maybelline, and Versace, appearing in both print and television commercials. She also made some very memorable commercials for Pepsi in the early 90's. From 1989 to 1995, Cindy Crawford was host of MTV's hit show, House of Style. In 1991, Cindy married actor Richard Gere, eventually divorcing in 1995. The couple had no children together. In that same year, 1995, Cindy appeared on the first issue of the political magazine, simply called "George", which was co-founded by John F. Kennedy, Jr. Also in 1995, Cindy costarred in "Fair Game" with William Baldwin, which didn't do very well at the box office, but Cindy looked amazing in the movie anyway.

Cindy Crawford workout DVD's

In 1992, Cindy released her first workout video, Cindy Crawford - Shape Your Body Workout, which has since been rereleased on DVD. The workout was put together by a trainer named Radu. The workout has since come under incredible scrutiny regarding the safety of doing the execises, however, it has a great soundtrack and incredible photography, so it's probaby better just watching it for nostalgia purposes, than actually training to it!

In 1993, Cindy released Cindy Crawford - Next Challenge Workout, also available on DVD, which seemed to be a response to the backlash from the first workout video. This second workout video was produced under the supervision of C. Thomas Vangsness Jr., M.D., Chief of Sports Medicine at the University of Southern California. Again, great soundtrack and incredible photography. It's almost like one long music video.

In 2000, Cindy released her third workout DVD, Cindy Crawford - New Dimension. Cindy had wanted to firm up after having her baby, and she enlisted the talented Kathy Kaehler to develop a routine for her, and that's what this video is.

New chapter

Cindy CrawfordOn May 29, 1998, Cindy married Rande Gerber, with whom she has two children. Also in 1998, ten years after her Playboy debut, she appeared again, on the cover and inside, and again was photographed by Herb Ritts.
