Life as a Piano Teacher

I have been teaching piano since 1983. I'm not sure how many students have come through my doors, probably a couple hundred. I thought I'd share some piano teaching moments here.

I started teaching piano after purchasing a Kimball studio piano. I needed to pay for the loan and figured teaching would be the best way. It was. I quickly added students to my studio on Saturdays until I was up to 17. That made for a very long day.

I was finally able to quit my job in 1997 and started Cindy's Piano Studio in 1998 in a small rented space. It was awesome. I loved every minute of it....and then we moved in 2000. Bummer. I started teaching again a couple years later and now have 15 students in my home.

It has been rewarding and frustrating and I'd do it all over again.

Student Life

Today a mom told me something that a piano teacher loves to here. Her daughter, who is 6, is going to the piano by herself to practice. She has the personality to work on something until she gets it right...perfect for piano playing.
