Make Your Own Delicious Homemade Cinnamon Rolls At Home
You have control over what goes into your homemade cinnamon rolls. If you don't like vanilla frosting then go ahead and frost them with chocolate frosting. Do you like your cinnamon rolls with raisins or another dried fruit...then put what you want in them. How about using some whole wheat flour in them...it's up to you. Have fun making them just the way you like them.
Recipe for Homemade Cinnamon Rolls
Cinnamon Rolls

INGREDIENTS:
1 package active dry yeast
1/2 cup warm water (105 to 115)
1/2 cup lukewarm milk (scalded then cooled)
1/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup shortening, or margarine or butter, softened
1 teaspoon salt
1 egg
3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour*
DIRECTIONS:
PREPARE THE DOUGH:
Dissolve yeast in warm water in large bowl. Stir in milk, sugar, shortening, salt, egg and 2 cups of the flour. Beat until smooth. Mix in enough remaining flour to make dough easy to handle.
Turn dough onto lightly floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes. Place in greased bowl; turn greased side up. Cover; let rise in warm place until double, about 1 1/2 hours. (Dough is ready if an indentation remains when touched.) Punch down dough. Shape, let rise and bake as directed.
PREPARE THE ROLLS:
For my cinnamon rolls - roll out dough into a large oval - spread with softened margarine/butter - sprinkle with brown sugar (use hand to spread evenly) - sprinkle with cinnamon. Roll up - cut - place cinnamon rolls in 9x12 pan (lightly press them together with hand). Let rise and bake for about 24 minutes at 350 degree oven.
*If using self-rising flour, omit salt.
VANILLA GLAZE:
Soften 2 tsp of margarine or butter in small mixing bowl. Add 2 1/2 cups of
powdered sugar, 1/2 tsp vanilla & pinch of salt. Mix in enough water to make
glaze. Frost cinnamon rolls after they have cooled for approximately 20
minutes.
DO-AHEAD TIP:
After kneading, dough can be covered and refrigerated in greased bowl no longer than 4 days.
BREADMAKER:
I prepare the dough in my breadmaker. Just put all the ingredient's for the sweet roll dough into the breadmaker and put it on the dough cycle. Then prepare as above in prepare the rolls.

Make them your way
You can make other frostings to put on top of your cinnamon rolls. How about chocolate, caramel or cream cheese frosting instead of vanilla frosting.
Before rolling up the dough and cutting the cinnamon rolls add raisins, dried cranberries or another dried fruit on top of the butter, brown sugar and cinnamon.
Do you love nuts? You can put some in the cinnamon rolls or even spread some on top of your freshly frosted rolls.
Do you prefer using whole wheat flour...replace some of the all purpose flour with it.
You can make these cinnamon rolls the way you and your family prefer. You are in total control of what goes in and on them!
