Those Funny Looking French Cars - Citroens
The Citroën is a French automobile. Several of the models are rather funny looking French cars, actually. Citroen was founded in 1919 by André Citroën, and it was the world's first mass-production car company outside of the USA.
Since 1976 it has been part of PSA Peugeot Citroën, and its headquarters is on rue Fructidor, Paris. The Citroen brand celebrated its 90th Anniversary in 2009.
Citroen was originally a mass-market car maker with relatively straightforward designs, but Citroën shocked the world in 1934 with the innovative Traction Avant, the world's first mass-production front wheel drive car (1934-56).
Other significant models introduced by Citroen include the H Van (1947-81), the 2CV (1948-90), the DS (1955-1975) and the CX (1974-91).

The Little Deux Chevaux
The Citroën 2CV was a French economy car produced from 1949 to 1990. Considered one France's most iconic cars, it was originally designed to move the French farmers, who at the time were getting around using carts drawn by horses.
It's design was extremely simple, yet quite technically advanced for it's day. The simple Bauhaus design of tubular frames were used for the interior seats and body framework.
A popular British motor magazine is quoted as saying: "... the extraordinary ingenuity of this design, which is undoubtedly the most original since the Model T Ford."
Powered by a 2 cylinder air cooled engine, the Citroen 2CV was made to be extremely simple to work on and maintain. When the Citroën 2CV was being designed, one of the major requirements was to appeal to the French farmer by designing it to be able to carry four adult males wearing top hats, plus a pay load of 100 kilos. Along with this payload, a basket of eggs would be carried and the Citroën 2CV would be expected to drive through a freshly plowed field without breaking any of the eggs.
