City of Sugar Land - Family Oriented, Shopping Heaven

In 1980, City of Sugar Land had less than 10,000 population, and in 2008, there are an estimated 82,000 people living here. Quite a growth curve! But we have had controlled but rapid growth over the last 28 years. And because the growth has been fast, most everything here looks clean and new. Even the older landmarks have been spruced upto match the new environs.

City of Sugar Land Town Square is the heart of the entertainment district in City of Sugar Land and in Fort Bend County. It has a variety of restaurants, sidewalk cafes, shops, a Marriott Hotel and conference center, mid-rise offices and homes, townhouses, a public plaza, and the Sugar Land City Hall. Festivals and important events take place in the plaza. We've even had 2 live concerts by the popular group Sugar Land on the steps of City Hall. And yes, they named their group after our city. Why? They said they thought the name sounded good! We agree! At the last concert held on the front steps of the new City Hall, the lead singer looked up at the front of the new Sugar Land City Hall and said "You know, Sugar Land sure looks good in marble!" We agree!

The new city hall and public plaza, a cornerstone of Sugar Land Town Square, received the "Best Community
Impact" award from the Houston Business Journal at the fifth annual Landmark Awards ceremony.

Did you say where are the Malls? Well, if you prefer to shop online, visit www.SugarLandMall.com , which is owned

by City of Sugar Land businessman Mickey Mixon. And for those that want traditional mall shopping, First Colony Mall is a very large brick and mortar mall that has the original indoor design familiar to most, but now has added outdoor activities, several parking garages, and new signage. And outside bordering the mall, feel good music is played. The mall is anchored by Dillard's, Macy's, JCPenney, and Barnes & Noble, along with over 130 stores, including Pottery Barn, Coach, Williams-Sonoma, Ann Taylor, Forever 21, Chico, Talbots, and a very spiffy food court. Other major retailers located near the mall in various portions of the Town Center area include Target, Best Buy, Circuit City, Toys R Us, Linens 'n Things, Finger Furniture, Petsmart, Kroger, Garden Ridge, Lowe's, Home Depot, Lane Home Furnishings, and DSW, as well as a new and already an award-winning Mercedes-Benz dealership. And I almost forgot%u2026my favorite haunt, The Cheesecake Factory!

Don't like cheesecake? Don't despair. There are several of the Cold Stone/Marble Slab Ice creameries close by.

You'll never go hungry in City of Sugar Land!
