Civilization I : The beginning of an epic.

Welcome to the Civilization Chronicle! This is a group of resources for Civilization players across the world, from the original Civ computer game all the way up to today! This page focuses on the first game in the series, Civilization 1.

In The Beginning.... The origin of Civ I

Before Windows there was DOS...

Civilization I was a 2.6 MB DOS game that was originally released in 1990.

It marked the beginning of what would become one of the greatest computer games in history, as well as a creation of a whole new type of game - The turn-based strategy game.

You begin with a single settler (a city-founding unit) and build your empire up to the colonization of Alpha Centauri!

It was an amazing game for its vision and depth at a time. Hours and hours of gameplay were gotten out of a program smaller than most digital pictures now!

What is your favorite memory from Civ 1 ?

I realize I'm dating myself a bit, but I was a wee little 8 year-old when Civ was released. I was Instantly addicted. When did you become Addicted to Civ? and how?

I was over 20 years old and a friend introduces Civ to me. I falled in love instantly. Then came CIv 2, 3, 4, 5... I still can“t stop play any of them. I plan my moves during the day to execute them at home. My wife is a little jealous, but Civ is bigger than me.
