Civ IV : A worthy Addition to a fantastic series of epic computer games

Civilization four is the highest grossing Civilization game to date with over 6 million units sold. Enhanced graphics, new strategies, new units and more await you as you build your kingdom up with the ultimate goal in mind: ruling the world!

What's new in Civ IV?

New features in Civilzation Four

A few Major Changes have been made to the game. In my opinion, they are all for the good. These include:
  • 3D resolution and graphics for the entire game. The entire world is animated and changes and grows as the game goes on.
  • Simplified City Management. Health and Happiness are the two factors that your populace effect. A major improvement.
  • Civics Replace Governments. Instead of having to pick one government, you can pick and choose the traits that you like as you research them from religion to economic policy and beyond.
  • Unit Promotions. As your units gain glory through destroying inferior races, they can be given new combat bonuses and special traits.

Strategy Tips for Civ IV

Basic Strategy Tips for Civilization

Here are a few tips for Civ IV if you are just getting started. Many expert players will scoff at these, but I've found them useful in teaching new players the game.
  • The First thing you should build (Unless you are playing above Noble Difficulty) is another settler. Trust me, 2 cities as fast as possible is huge.
  • Once you can build swordsmen/axemen begin keeping at least 2 units in every city as a garrison. If you have weaker units than your opponents, 3 or 4 is even better. Retaking cities in Civ IV is tough.
  • Don't grant open borders to another civilization unless you have scouts/explorers active near them that can take advantage of it. The computer will come scout out all of your defenses, don't agree to open borders unless you can do the same.
  • Until about 1000 AD don't build any buildings that are not vital that take more than 5 turns or so. I consider vital buildings to be barracks, something to expand culture, and a granary.
  • Always have a settler under construction until all of the space on the map is claimed. If you can see unclaimed space, you should be building settlers.

use barbarians to your advantage: keep an area in fog and send new units "Questing" to gain quick promotions, and possibly a free city.

Darius of Persia is immense. Immortals are just Phat, and the apothercary adds health in the middle ages which is vital. Financial means you tech at a sick rate, and organised means that you can build a ridiculous amount of cities. Even at emporer, you can do the ai in tech.
