Puzzles of auras and chakras and more

These are such fun: jigsaw puzzles out of pictures of auras and historical depictions of chakras. Each is also available as a poster or art print.

Aside from the beautiful posters and puzzles I found, I've also included a bit of a history lesson on how the aura has been portrayed. I start with theosophist clairvoyant C.W. Leadbeater who was responsible for popularizing the concepts of auras and chakras in the 20th century. Then I have an early Western image of the chakras from the 17th century. Included here are also two more recent posters that fit the stylized symbols that have become the common way of referring to the chakras visually.

C.W. Leadbeater's explanation on the aura and the chakras is likely to be his most influential work. In it he explores territory that till then had been hidden in Western Esoteric texts and ancient Hindu texts. Neither were accessible for the general public.
The situation has changed dramatically since then: go into an esoteric bookstore and you'll find easy introduction on this subject. You will find lovely pictures and colorful illustrations about each of the seven chakras and their function in the human aura.
The poster above still looks very much like the images in the texts Leadbeater perhaps took his ideas from. The line along the spine isn't yet stressed and the relationship to the main organs is primary.

Aside from making these ideas known to a more general public, Leadbeater also introduced the Indian terminology to the west. The word chakra for instance: it means 'wheel' - signifying the round shape of these centers of energy.

Compare to the 17th century depiction of the same by Mary Evans (1696) for instance. Then look at the chakras and mudras poster (the green one) - the symbols you see there come from Hinduism - closer to what Leadbeater saw, but more stylized and closer to flowers than to energy centers.
