Clarence Gilyard, also known as Clarence Gilyard Jr, was born December 24, 1955 in Moses Lake, Washington. He was born into a military family, in fact, he attended the US Air Force Academy, but later transferred to Sterling College to play football and purse his career as an actor.
In the 1980's, Gilyard hit the big screen making his debut in Top Gun and later went on the The Karate Kid and Die Hard. He has also made a name for himself as a television actor on the series Matlock and as Chuck Norris's partner on Walker, Texas Ranger.

In 1988, Gilyard played the roll of Theo, a terrorist in the movie Die Hard.Again, it was not a starring character in the film, but he did have an important roll and several memorable quotes such as:

- An excellent and very funny actor. I have never lost even one chapter from Texas Ranger.
and I think that without him the series would have been a failure.
