Board Games From Your Childhood
There's nothing like a good, old-fashioned board game, the kind you grew up with, to enjoy other people's company, laugh and joke, catch up on old times, and re-live your childhood. It's amazing how playing a game can bring back a flood of memories.
Before there was the internet, cable TV, or smartphones and tablets, there were board games, card games, and other cleverly-designed games to bring the whole family together for a great night of fun and adventure. Card games like Crazy 8's and Double Solitaire required speed and quick-thinking while other games like Bridge and Hearts needed more thought and planning.
But it was the popularity of the board game, where multiple players could entertain themselves for hours, that truly took over the toy stores across America. Cheap entertainment that would last for years, memories that would last a lifetime.
* Monopoly - The king of all games. Win everything or go bust.
* Parcheesi - A clever game that lets you get revenge on whoever you play with.
* Risk - Kill your enemies and conquer the world.
* Candyland - A simple game and one of my childhood favorites.
* Clue - A classic game of who-dunnit.
* The Game of Life - It's all in the name.
* Mousetrap - Maybe not a true board game in the sense of the word but fun to build and play.
* Stratego - Army against army in this thrilling game of blind warfare.
All were my favorites from the 1960's that are still being made today. Maybe it's time you checked them out again.
Monopoly - The Granddaddy of Them All
The history of Monopoly can be traced back to 1904, when a woman named Elizabeth J. Magie Phillips created a game called, The Landlord's Game, and was commercially published in 1924.For me personally, I took many beatings while playing Monopoly. It took a long time before I finally won a game. It's a vicious, money-grabbing, game of underhanded lechery and deceit. The loser always hates the winner, it's unavoidable. The worst part is when they won't accept a more-than-reasonable trade in order for you to stay viable in the game. They shut you out, force you into bankruptcy, grab all your stuff and move on to win the game. Grrrrr!!!
* Escape maps, compasses and files were inserted into Monopoly game boards smuggled into POW camps inside Germany during World War II. Real money for escapees was slipped into the packs of Monopoly money.
* In the 1970's, a Braille edition of the Monopoly game was created for the visually impaired.
* The three most-landed-on properties are "GO," Illinois Avenue, and the B&O Railroad.

The Game of Life
The Game of Life was originally created in 1860 by Milton Bradley as The Checkered Game of Life. The game sold 45,000 copies by the end of its first year. The object was to land on the "good" spaces and collect 100 points. A player could gain 50 points by reaching "Happy Old Age" in the upper-right corner, opposite "Infancy" where one began. In 1960, the 100th anniversary of The Checkered Game of Life, the first modern version of The Game of Life was introduced. The game simulates a person's travels through his or her life, from college to retirement, with jobs, marriage, and possible children along the way.
My sister got me playing this game. It's okay but not very exciting or thrilling. You just go around picking up wives, children and jobs. Nice for a rainy day waiting for the cookies to bake in the oven.

Trouble Board Game
Trouble is a board game in which players compete to be the first to send four pieces all the way around a board. Pieces are moved according to the roll of a die. Trouble was launched in the United States in 1965.The most notable feature of Trouble is the "Pop-O-Matic" die container. This device is a clear plastic hemisphere containing the die, placed over a flexible sheet. Players roll the die by pressing down quickly on the bubble, which flexes the sheet and causes the die to tumble upon its rebound. The Pop-O-Matic container produces a popping sound when it is used, and prevents the die from being lost . It allows for quick die rolls, and players' turns can be performed in rapid succession.

Twister
Twister is played on a large plastic mat that is spread on the floor. The mat has four rows of large colored circles on it with a different color in each row: red, yellow, blue, and green. A spinner is attached to a square board and serves as a die for the game. The spinner is divided into four labeled sections: right foot, left foot, right hand, and left hand. Each of those four sections is divided into the four colors (red, yellow, blue, and green). After spinning, the combination is called (example: right hand yellow) and players must move their matching hand or foot to a dot of the correct color.
In a two-player game, no two people can have a hand or foot on the same circle - the rules are different for more players. Due to the scarcity of colored circles, players will often be required to put themselves in unlikely or precarious positions, eventually causing someone to fall. A person is eliminated when they fall or when their elbow or knee touches the mat.
There is no limit to how many can play at once, but more than four is a tight fit.

- I remember Monopoly and Life as a kid! They were pretty fun board games for a couple of my friends when we were kids. My family would jump in the fun sometimes too. It's cool how they have it on the computer now but the feel just isn't the same.
