The Classic Captain Midnight
Ranked #2,236 in Books, Poetry & Writing, #91,781 overall
Secretly Defending America from 1938 to 2011!
Created for radio in 1938, the patriotic aviator ran the Secret Squadron, what we today would call a "black ops" team, supported by the government, but functioning outside of cumbersome legalities in dealing with spies, saboteurs, and (after the war) criminals!
He's been on tv and radio, in movies, books, and both comic books AND newspaper comic strips!
And the phrase "Captain Midnight Decoder" became synonymous with mail-in premiums for decades!
Now, he's making a comeback in print and other media...

The ONLY Cover to Show His Secret Identity! (Captain Midnight #20)

The FIRST TV Captain Midnight!

But NOT Richard Webb!
Captain Midnight Adventure Theater announcer Vern Smith, bedecked in flight suit reminiscent of the Fawcett comic book version of the intrepid aviator, flew into homes in 1951 as the host of this half-hour series.
Smith was featured in the opening, closing, and commercials wrapped around episodes of Republic serials which had been edited to 26 minutes, by, essentially, combining two chapters and removing the extra titles and recaps (except for the first episodes, which usually ran 23-25 minutes).
Ironically, the Captain Midnight serial from the 1940s was NOT shown on this tv show, because it was done by another movie studio and the show didn't have the rights to it!

- I have the 1957 red Captain Midnight shaker with the blue top. It was to commemorate CM's 15th anniversary. Cost me $27 at a local antique mall but worth it. Have drank cold Ovaltine from it. Used to have 1945 CM decoder. To all Secret Squadron members..."Justice Through Strength and Courage."

- I have two plastic red mugs that I kept since I was a child. I need to know if they are valuable and worth displaying. My wife wants to throw them away, thus I need the information.

- Welcome! It's a pleasure to hear from one of the original fans!
I discovered Cap from old transcription disks in the 1970s. (My uncle was a radio station engineer back in the 40s-50s and left me his collection when he died.)
I hope you feel I did Cap proud with this lens.
