Music new ways of expressing old themes
Heavy metal music roots come from classical music. Classical musicians encountered similar conditions when their music was first heard as today's heavy metal musicians do. Listen to the classics and then listen to various artists of today's heavy metal music and find the similarities.

Let's compare what we've heard about Mozart, Beethoven, Wagner, Bach, and the list goes on and on...to today's heavy metal artists.
The religious leaders condemned classical music as blasphemous when it first came out, as they do to heavy metal music now.
The "stars" of classical were young, flirtatious, anti-establishment, had followers and groupies, partied alot, and were irreverent. Much like today's artists. Not much changed there has it?
The chords are basically the same. Some of today's stars are classically trained and you can hear it in their music (if you really listen to the music). Some bands include Savatage, Pain, Circle II Circle, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Van Halen, Megadeth, Iron Maiden etc.
