Quiz: Classic Literature Quizzes

Ranked #3,800 in Books, Poetry & Writing, #144,062 overall | Donates to Squidoo Charity Fund, Save the Children

What's It All About?

This lens is to test your knowledge of classics of world literature. I started out with a quiz themed on Russian literature, but others have been added on other topics - Charles Dickens, weddings and pirates in literature and more. Other themes to come will include French literature, cats, works with a war theme, political literature and so on. I'm always open to suggestions for more quizzes.

Who's Who in Russian Literature

Are you a Prince Myshkin or a Porfiry Petrovich?

Try your luck at these questions about characters in famous Russian novels, plays and stories.

Are We Having Fun Yet?

How did you do?

Did you take the quiz? How did you do? I hope you had fun, anyway. But I'd love to hear what you thought, so please do leave a little piece of your own literature behind here.

What the Dickens? Quiz

In this quiz I'm testing your knowledge of the works of Charles Dickens. I'll give you a character name, and you decide where they appeared in his stories. I promise, no obscure characters who only pop up once to sell a bunch of flowers or something.

Inspector Bucket or Mr Bumble?

So, did you enjoy the quiz? How did you get on? Let us know.

  • RuralFloridaLiving May 28, 2012 @ 9:11 am | delete
    Mr. Bumble!

Literary Weddings Quiz

In this country this week you simply can't escape a certain wedding, so I've been inspired with a theme - marriages in classic fiction. Try your hand at these.

A Lover or a Fighter?

How did you like my weddings quiz? Too easy? Too Hard? About right? Let me know.

  • RuralFloridaLiving May 28, 2012 @ 9:16 am | delete
Ouch - that was hard for me! Oh, well.
  • Cumberland May 8, 2012 @ 5:51 pm | delete
    One short of acing it.
  • WordCustard Jan 31, 2012 @ 10:17 am | delete

  • cmadden Dec 12, 2011 @ 7:45 am | delete

  • Gloriousconfusion Oct 16, 2011 @ 8:53 am | delete
improving - 60% this time. As I have read 8 out of 10 of them, this is not too good, especially as I read Wuthering Heights for the 2nd time only a few months ago, and still got it wrong :(

I love pirates, and with a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie coming out what better time to launch a quiz on pirates in literature? So sails out for the Barbary Coast, and break out the jolly roger!

Children's Fiction

There are some truly wonderful children's books around, and I decided it was time I remembered them with a quiz. I'm going to try and keep to older works in this one, and save the more recent ones for another time, so there will be no Harry Potter questions (sorry). I promise Harry will get his mention elsewhere.

Mother Goose, or Mother Hubbard?

Did your storehouse of knowledge overflow or was it bare this time? Let me know!

  • RuralFloridaLiving May 28, 2012 @ 9:21 am | delete
    Mother Goose - Doing better....

Movie Classics

Many great films have been based on classic literature, some staying close to the source and others straying. Here's a few questions about great books on screen. Good luck!
