This lens is about classic television for kids. In this lens you will find some of my favorite shows that my kids watched as they were growing up. These classics were great. They taught lessons but still entertained, and you didn't feel like you had to worry about what your children were watching. They even were interesting to me. So check them out and see if you remember any of these great classics!

Legends of the Hidden Temple



Legends of the Hidden Temple was a game show with a physical challenge for children. Hosted by Kirk Fogg this show originally ran for 3 seasons, 1993-1995. The show used physical stunts and questions pertaining to geography, history and mythology.

Each show started off with 6 teams, with each team having one boy and one girl. Eventually all but one team was eliminated with the "winning" team going through the temple maize to find a hidden artifact which would win them the grand prize.

Pappyland



Pappyland was an award winning children's show originally broadcast from 1996-1999. The show starred Michael Cariglio, a artist and cartoonist who played Pappy Drewitt. He played an artist who lived in a magical cabin. The show focused on teaching children life lessons, but also on singing, dancing and drawing.

Double Dare



Double Dare was a kids game show that starred Marc Summers and aired from 1986-1993. The show combined trivia questions followed by messy physical challenges. When a team of players answered a question correctly, then would earn money. If they missed, the other team could answer if they knew or dare the incorrect team. A team could also double dare back. A dared or double dared team could get a physical challenge, usually quite messy if they couldn't answer the question. At the end of time, the team with the most money got to do the final challenge, an obstacle course for a grand prize. Even losing teams got to keep all the money they had earned up until that point.

The Mystery Files of Shelby Woo



Shelby Woo was a mystery show geared towards kids which aired from 1996-1998.The show starred Irene Ng as the title character,and the revolved around the adventures of a young teenage girl who lives with her innkeeper grandfather. Shelby worked as an intern at the local police department where she helped out with odds and ends around the office.

When a case came along that interested Shelby she always managed to give her insight into the case and get her friends to help her "solve" it.

Space Cases



Space Cases was a Science Fiction television show that ran for two seasons, 1996 and 1997. It was created by Lost In Space Alumni Bill Mumy.The premise of the show revolves around a group of misfit students and two grown-ups who get stuck out in space. They are in an alien ship that goes deep into space stranding them far from home. They have many adventures trying to get back from space, some of them dangerous.

The Secret World of Alex Mack



The Secret World of Alex Mack was a science fiction, fantasy, teen drama that ran from 1994-1998. It starred Larissa Oleynik, as Alex a teen girl who develops super powers after being exposed to chemicals in a chemical spill.

The show shows Alex as she tries to be a typical teen while also trying not to let her super powers control her life. She also has to try and keep her powers hidden from her parents, although her older sister and her best friend Ray are in on her secret.

Gullah Gullah Island



Gullah Gullah Island was a tv show which starred Ron Daise (producer) and his wife Natalie. It aired from 1994-1997. The show was about Ron and Natalie and their fictional family and pet frog named Binyah Binyah. The show was suppose to be taking place on an island near South Carolina.

The focus of the show was on singing,dancing and learning. It often urged children to eat healthy and to tell the truth and how to learn to solve problems.

Doug (Funny)



The kids show Doug was an animated cartoon starring Doug Funny, his sister Judy, his parents and many of his friends and school mates. Doug ran from 1991-1994 on Nick. The show takes place in the fictitious town of Bluffington and deals with the life of Doug, an elementary school student. Also featured prominently in the show are Doug's friends Skeeter Valentine and Patty Mayonnaise, a girl Doug has a crush on.

Are You Afraid of the Dark



Are You Afraid of the Dark was a show that broadcast from 1991-1996 on SNICK. This show was about a group of teenagers who would meet weekly and one person would tell a scary story to the rest of the group. As the story was told, the television audience viewed the story. The stories usually involved ghosts, magic, haunted houses and the like. For the most part, even the scariest stories had happy endings.

Hey Arnold is an AmericanTV show that aired from 1996 until 2004 on Nickelodeon. The show stars 4th-grader Arnold, who lives with his grandparents Phil and Gertrude, proprietors of a boarding house. In each episode, Arnold often helps a schoolmate solve a personal problem, or encounters a dilemma of his own. Hey Arnold takes place in the imaginary American city of Hillwood.

I don't think any of these classic shows are available on Nick anymore, but a few other good ones can be found on Nick at Nite. Check out Fresh Prince (for older kids) and Malcolm in the Middle and Sponge Bob.

Spongebob Squarepants



Spongebob Squarepants is an animated cartoon that was created by a marine biologist by the name of Steve Hillenburg. It stars Spongebob an energetic sponge and his best friend Patrick a star fish. Living near the two friends is the often arrogant Squidward. The series takes place at Bikini Bottom a city underneath the Pacific Ocean. Many other forms of sea life are seen throughout the various episodes.

Pete and Pete



Pete and Pete was a kids show about two brothers both of whom were named Pete Wrigley.The brothers were played by Danny Tamburelli and Mike Maronna. The show was about the adventures of their family and the various interactions the boys had with family, friends and enemies.

Mike Maronna, who played big Pete ( 4 years older than little Pete) often narrated during the episodes. The show ran for 3 seasons fro 34 half hour episodes.

Mighty Mouse


Mighty Mouse was an animated superhero mouse, created by Terrytoons. The character started off with a blue costume and red cape like that of Superman, but soon his outfit was changed to a yellow costume and red cape. Originally the character was seen as a parody for Superman, but was originally called Superfly.

Lassie



Lassie was an American tv series which starred a collie named Lassie and her human family. After a few years, Tim Rettig who played young Jeff, Jon Provost was cast as Timmy, his replacement. June Lockhart played Ruth Martin Timmy's mom and Hugh Reilly played Paul Martin Timmy's dad ( Timmy was adopted).

Lassie's original run was from 1954-1973. Lassie was a top 25 show for all of its run with the exception of 1960 when it was up against Walt Disney and Shirley Temple.

The Fairly Odd Parents



The Fairly OddParents is an American animated television series about the adventures of Timmy Turner. Timmy Turner is a 10-year-old boy who lives in the town of Dimmsdale. He is very dim-witted as are his parents.He is constantly miserable, because his parents are rarely home and he is babysat by Vicky, a 16 year old babysitter who is always torturing him. However, things change for the better when Timmy receives two fairy godparents: Cosmo and his wife, Wanda.

    I honestly haven't heard of some of those. Mighty Mouse is definitely my favorite of the ones I did know, however.
