A Rug for Your Classroom

Ranked #2,733 in Education, #65,169 overall

Learning starts on the Classroom Rug

The classroom rug is the heart of the classroom. We begin our day on the classroom area rug where we greet each other, have our Morning Meeting and we end our day on the rug with a closing.

When choosing a classroom area rug it is important to think of classroom management. The rug needs to be big enough for all of the children in the classroom to sit comfortably. A rug in the classroom must withstand lots of wear and tear. It needs to be easy to clean and have a non-slip backing.

But maybe the most important thing is that anything in a classroom should be educational and the rugs that I suggest in this article are all educational. Each rug can help to enhance learning for children at each different grade. You will find rugs for Kindergarten, First Grade, Second Grade and Third Grade.

Sunny Day Kindergarten Classroom Rug

Best Kindergarten Classroom Rug

Sunny Day Oval Carpet - 8'3 x 11'8

Kindergarteners are learning their numbers and letters. This large classroom area rug features the numbers 1 to 10 on clouds surrounding a sun. The 26 letters of the alphabet form the border and are ideal for assigning seats. In my classroom we change seats each day. This helps the children learn each of the letters. I have the children's names written on magnets. Each day the children's names are moved down until each child has had a chance to sit on each letter.

Sunny Day Oval Carpet - 8'3" x 11'8"

The Sunny Day oval carpet is the perfect classroom rug for kindergarten because of its simple symmetrical design and its focus on letters and numbers. This classroom rug is made with antibacterial material with a non-slip backing that resists wrinkling. Though this area rug comes in several sizes, I recommend that you purchase the largest one so that you have room for all the children to fit on the carpet.

The shape of the rug in your classroom can really make a difference in how your classroom management. A round or oval rug can help the children find seats in a circle. This is ideal for Morning Meeting and other times when you wish the children to feel that everyone is included in the conversation.

A square or rectangular rug creates more seating space for rows of students to sit for lessons, story hour or other situations where the teacher is conducting lessons.

Discussions on the Classroom Rug

Here is my favorite run. As many of you may know, I love teaching with a Frog Theme so the Frog Pond Rug would be my choice for the perfect classroom rug.

These are great for libraries too, for the children's area. The ABC one would look good next to a bookshelf full of alphabet books.
