Great Free Tips on Working With Clay for the Clay Artist, Potter and Art Teacher
I've just found the best kept secret on the internet for clay artists and pottery making enthusiasts. It's perhaps one of the best free sources of tips and information I've ever seen, and it's all right at our fingertips.
The odd thing about it is that this same set of information used to be sold for over $30, but the author has decided to simply give it away as a free gift!
The information is packaged as a series of 8 separate downloadable eBooks. Actually, they are offered as an incentive for people to make a small donation to the author's clay work information project.
But even so, What a DEAL! I can remember the time when finding this quality of information took a GREAT deal of searching, but having it all in one place like this is outstanding. I just wish something this good was available when I was struggling to learn most of it myself.
The site can be found at www.ArtTeacherCeramicCenter.com. I suppose the site information was originally geared for art teachers, but it is exactly what everyone working with clay needs to know.
I stumbled upon it by accident and its offer intrigued me so much that I went ahead and ordered the whole set of guides. Man, oh man, I was actually AMAZED that these things were being practically GIVEN away (I guess technically they were given away, but even the small donation was like asking for peanuts)!
But Hey, I sure don't mind supporting quality stuff like this that's really out to help people, rather than simply profit off of them.
Part of this series of guides includes a 2-part mini-series on exactly how to avoid defects in clay and glaze. The website was saying how that particular series was very highly acclaimed and I can see why.
It was VERY well written. In fact, I probably would have literally save myself YEARS of frustrating trial and error by having this knowledge back when I was learning. I highly recommend that series to everyone in the beginning and intermediate stages of working with clay.
If that weren't enough, the rest of these wonderful guides revolve around key tips and how-to instructions for firing electric kilns. You get just about everything you'll ever need to know about manual AND automatic kiln firing.
In fact, in that group you'll find what I would consider to be THE best Kiln Sitter firing guide I've ever run across. I'm telling you this whole collection of information is really something else!
My hat's off to this author and the tremendous service he's doing for clay artists, potters and teachers. This site is definitely one that I recommend. If you, or someone you know, is learning or teaching the art of working with clay, then you really need to get over there and check it out.
