Buying a Claymore Sword
Different options to consider when buying a Scottish Claymore Sword.

The Scottish Claymore Sword is a huge sword famously used against the British. The Claymore Sword was popularized in the movie Braveheart, and the word Claymore actually is derived from a word that means "Great Sword."
If you are looking to buy a Claymore Sword there are several options online. You can buy Braveheart or Traditional Claymore Swords. If you are a history-buff you may want to avoid the Braveheart swords since they aren't very accurate.
The diversity of Traditional Claymore Swords being sold online is huge. Most commonly, you will probably see cheap stainless steel Claymore Swords. These can be found for well under $100. I've had experience with these and ... I don't particularly recommend them. They LOOK okay, but when you hold them, they generally have very loose fittings and you can feel the sword rattling in your hands. There are stainless steel Claymore Swords that are built solidly, but they go for over $300. And, regardless, stainless steel would never be considered truly authentic, functional, or battle ready.
As always, I recommend buying a Carbon Steel sword. Carbon steel is tougher than stainless steel. It needs a little more taking care of in the form of oil to prevent rust, but it's worth it. You can find Claymore Swords made of carbon steel listed for as low as $100 at times ... but I can't really vouch for these. Often times the blades are mass produced in a factory and aren't properly heat treated. Some stores may tout them as functional, but it's usually because of the simple fact that they are carbon steel. Not all carbon steel blades are truly functional.
On the other end of the spectrum you have custom Claymore Swords produced by swordsmiths. These are often very well made, but quality can vary quite a lot. In addition, the price of one of these can be quite prohibitive. I've seen these swords ranging from around $700 to $1400.
If you want a truly functional Claymore Sword at a more reasonable price, I recommend you check out SwordWares.com. The sword retails at $299, but is regularly listed 20% off. It's much better quality than cheap stainless steel swords, and more affordable than custom options.
You can always find the Claymore Sword, plus many other Great Swords at SwordWares.com
