For Crafty Gals, Cleaning An Iron Is An Essential Duty!

Oh, yuk! How did I manage to let my iron get so dirty?

A hot iron is part of regular crafting, and when you are pressing items with glue and fusibles; the result is a really messy iron.

So, you occasionally need to wash off all the sticky stuff and begin with a fresh, clean pressing surface.

It only takes a few minutes to get your iron sparkling clean again... follow me as I show you the steps I take to removing the gook from my sometimes sorely neglected steam iron!

A Hot Iron Is Easier to Clean

I like to clean my iron while it's hot, but there are some important factors to consider if you choose to do so.

Once the iron is hot,
YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST UNPLUG IT BEFORE YOU CLEAN!
The reasons are obvious, nevertheless... better safe than sorry!

I also use hot water with my cleaning sponge.

The next important factor is to wear a good grade of rubber gloves. If you burn your fingers, you won't want to spend any time pressing the fabrics you are getting ready to craft with!

I choose Playtex Living Gloves. I LOVE Them!
The quality is terrific, and they come in hot pink... functional AND cute.

I just tried to clean my iron. I tried using alcohol and it didn't work, then I tried acetone and still no luck. So I decided to search Squido and viola. Here is the info I needed. Thank you very much.

    Hey

I found that the following cleaner works when cleaning my steam iron. although I have to admit, that I actually have not managed yet to get it as dirty as yours. But hey, I only had it a few months, so it might still be in my future.
