Cleaning Your Diamond Jewelry at Home

Use a small soft brush such as an eyebrow or child's tooth brush to clean your jewelry. Mix one part ammonia (or Mr. Clean) with four parts warm water in a small bowl or cup. Then place your diamond jewelry in the mixture. Allow to soak for ten minutes. Then brush the diamonds with the soft bristles of the brush while they are in the suds. Then rinse your jewels of the suds after cleaning them. You can use a small kitchen strainer such as a tea strainer to contain them while rinsing under warm water. Use a lint free cloth, or a jewelry polish cloth to pat them dry.
If your diamonds are in need of a more thorough cleansing, you may want to soak them for 30 minutes in a solution of half and half water and ammonia. Once they have soaked for 30 minutes, remove them and gently brush the mountings with a small brush. Then replace the pieces to the solution and swish them around in the mixture before removing them to rinse and pat dry.
If you prefer, many stores sell liquid jewelry cleaners. Most are complete jewelry cleaning kits, with brush, cleaner, and lint free cloth included. You need to read the labels to determine the one that is right for your diamonds and other jewelry.
Another means to cleaning your diamond jewelry is by using an ultrasonic cleansing unit. They use high-frequency to create a cleaning motion.

- Diamonds are a rip off these days. You don't know if it's a diamond dug out of the ground of if it's a diamond created in the lab. Scientists are able to mass produce diamonds in the lab now and if you put those diamonds side by side with the diamonds dug up from the ground, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
