What our Vet said about tear stain on our dogs face
Soon after we got our first Maltese was that she seemed to have a lot of excessive tearing or drainage from her eyes.
We thought at first that it was due to the teething process as she lost her baby teeth and her adult teeth grew in.
We decided to be safe and make sure everything was okay...so we checked with our veterinarian and he told us that yes, some puppies have more tearing or eye drainage when they are teething.
However he also explained to us that the Maltese dog breed tends to have tear staining problems because of their facial bone structure and it is quite common occurrence and nothing to be alarmed about.
Well, that calmed our fears because it is important to us that our darling Maltese be healthy. But now what would be the best thing for cleaning tear stains on dogs faces?

Suggestions we were given for Cleaning Tear Stains on Dogs Face
We were told:
- keep the hair around their eyes trimmed short.
- give our Maltese a higher quality type of food.
- some topical tear stain removers were suggested that we applied to her face
- we were encouraged to add calcium tablets (Tums) to her food.
- and to give her special drinking water and to not use tap water.
What was the result?
Well some of these methods seemed to help reduce the excessive tearing.
But none of them completely stopped the staining
It was pretty frustrating!
We love our darling Maltese, but her face was stained dark reddish brown from the inside corners of her eyes down the rest of her face. She looked miserable and her face had a yucky odor to it.
Finally, it was suggested that we try a special powder and all we had to do was add it to her food every day.
And guess what happened -- within four weeks our little Maltese's face was clean and white and dry and beautiful!
This powder formula was so easy to use and it worked like a charm for cleaning tear stains on our dog.
