Coffee House Mystery

Cleo Coyle is an author that I have recently come to know. Although her books have been out for a few years, I read my first one over this past two months. Since reading that first book, I've been addicted to her writings. There are a total of ten in the Coffeehouse mystery series. I want to make a page reviewing her books so that you might be able to discover her too. Please read on, and I hope you find one that you will be interested in reading.

On What Grounds

On what grounds is book number one in the coffeehouse series. I'm the type of person who dose not read the prologue but with these books you need to read them, it is the beginning of the story. Clare Cosi is the manager of a cafe called " The Blend". As soon as she walks into her doors she finds one of her employees on the floor, in a coma. Clare want's to get to the bottom of what really happened to her. She isn't convinced that it was just an accident, she thinks someone pushed her down the stairs. With the help of Detective Quinn and her ex-husband Matteo she discovers what really happened.

I loved this book, I had no idea what was going to happen. Each one of these books has a recipe at the end and it's all connected with food and drinks used through out the book. I know that once I have finished reading each and everyone of these I will be reading them over and over again. I can't say I have felt this way about any other book in a long time.

Through the Grinder

There is a murderer on the streets. All the cases have been ruled out as a suicide. But when Clare Cosi's daughter starts dating from online services, she is concerned with who she could possibly be dating. Clare decides to join the online dating scene herself. People she ended up knowing were the ones who had killed themselves. She gets suspicious and starts to investigate what really happened to these women. She meets a really nice guy and is falling for him. He has dated each one of the woman who are now dead. Is her new love life the killer? She has help from Matteo again, is Clare safe or will she become his the next victim in this plot?

This book I needed a box of tissue. I couldn't put it down, and read this in two days. It was mystery, food, love, and coffee. Who is the killer? Is it someone who was an ex lover was it a friend? Kept me guessing down to the very end. Amazing book!

Latte Trouble

"The Blend" is hosting a party for Lottie Harmon. She's a coffee jewelry designer and is trying to remake a name for herself. Everything is going great until someone's latte is poisoned. The Barista, Tucker, is accused of murder. Clare finds herself investigating what really happened, knowing that Tucker isn't really guilty. She turns to Madame for help getting into exclusive events to question people and solve the mystery.
There were a lot of twists and turns and I enjoyed the flirtation between Claire and her ex-husband Matteo. She also had an interest in the detective Mike Quinn, so it left me wondering who she would end up with. The romance, the murders, and finding the killer, kept this book thoroughly entertaining. I had a hard time putting it down and I read it in three days

Murder Most Frothy

Clare Cosy is staying in a Hampton's Mansion helping a millionaire named David Mintzor. He wants his restaurant staff to be taught how to make a great cup of coffee. Clare is the one in charge to oversee them. During a fourth of July party, somebody is murdered. Clare thinks it's mistaken identity and the killer is really trying to murder David. Clare and Madame are playing detective once again, and are trying to save a man's life.
I enjoy the relationship between Clare and her daughter Joy. They disagree on how Joy should live her own life because she wants to be a wild young woman. At the same time, Clare has to let her daughter learn her own lessons and make her own mistakes. Clare seems to be as stubborn as her daughter and doesn't realize that they are very similar! It adds an extra element to the story while your wondering who the killer is.

Decaffeinated Corpse

Clare Cosi introduces a new type of decaffeinated coffee. She is a firm believer in caffeine, but Matteo is working on adding a quality decaf drink for his business. He presents the coffee to his employees while waiting for his business partner to show up. Clare takes out the garbage and finds a man lying in the alley. She tries to help him and gets attacked as well. The assailant runs away and Clare finds out the man she helps is Matteo's business partner. He doesn't want to involve the police but Clare wants to get to the bottom of who the attacker is.

I enjoyed the fact that Mike Quinn and Clare Cosi finally evolved in their relationship. They went from friends to having their first kiss. Also Matteo, although dating another woman, still has feelings for Clare. It always keeps you wondering if she'll be with Mike or Matteo. This book kept me guessing what would happen. Some book series can become stale after the first couple books. Cleo Coyle gets better with every book. I'm addicted and want to continue the series!

French Pressed

Joy has an affair with a married man named Chef Keitel. She is framed for his murder and the murder of a close friend from culinary school. Clare, yet again, uses her sleuthing to get down to the bottom of the murders. This time she has the help from her boyfriend, Detective Mike Quinn.

Every time I pick up one of Cleo Coyle's books, I think that the previous book can't be topped. This book proved me wrong as I could not put this one down. I ended up reading it in one day. This series is surprising and exciting and I feel a connection with each character. Every detail makes the book come alive. Once I finish this series, I know I will be rereading it!

Espresso Shot

Matteo is getting married to Breanne and someone is trying to kill her. At first it seems like it's only coincidental deaths and maybe there isn't a killer involved. After someone tries strangling Breanne, Clare realizes there is more to investigate into the related deaths. Who wants to kill Matteo's fiance? Will the couple succeed in becoming married?

I like the relationship between Clare and Mike Quinn. It's interesting how he treats her like a real P.I. even though she is technically a coffeehouse manager. He respects her opinions and they can talk freely together. I like the way Clare and Breanne dislike each other. It keeps the story interesting when everyone's dealing with drama besides the murders.

Holiday Grind

It's Christmas time at The Village Blend and snow has covered the New York streets. Clare goes on a search for their missing Santa who gave the idea for a Fa La La La Latte. This broke into several varieties of Christmas in a cup according to each barista. Clare discovers Alf in the alley next to a trash bin, dead. The police automatically dismiss it as a mugging gone wrong, but Clare knows differently. It just didn't add up. Why was Alf in the alley in the first place? Who would murder Santa Claus?

Every book I've picked up from Cleo has been an addiction. From page one, you are lured into the story by someone's murder. You turn each page to figure out who killed that victim. The added suspense of this book is that strange things start happening to each character. I enjoy the in depth descriptions and emotions of everyone in this book. I can't wait to read Roast Mortem!

Roast Mortem

Fires are being started at local coffee houses. Clare Cosi is caught in the middle of an explosion. Captain Mike Quinn of the FDNY, cousin to MIke Quinn the detective, is in charge of investigating the arsonist. Clare wants to get to the bottom of what's going on before her own coffee house goes up in flames. She also has to deal with the feud between the two Michael Quinns.

This book starts out exciting and it was glued to my hands until I finished reading it! The relationship between MIke Quinn and Clare is one of my highlights. I never get bored with this aspect of the series. Also Clare seems to always get into trouble and her life is in danger. Not only her boyfriend, but her ex-husband Matteo, are there to save her.

Murder By Mocha

Mocha Magic Coffee is a new herbal aphrodisiac. Madam has signed a contract to be a part of the new product. All is well into somebody is murdered at the release party. Clare is afraid that this product may taint the coffee house reputation. Is this new product truly an herbal extract? Is it laced with other drugs? Matteo assists Clare to find the answers.

This is one of the sexiest books in the series. With the added aphrodisiac, it has heated up everyone's libido. The book kept me guessing about who the killer was. It took reading the final pages to learn the true identity. I also really enjoyed the two different stories into the past of Madam and her relationship with Clare.

The only mystery I've read so far is the Moonstone by Wilkie Collins, but this series sounds interesting too.
