The Browns 2008 Draft
No Picks On Saturday, But Browns Busy On Sunday
Beau Bell, LB, UNLV, was the first player picked by the Browns in this years draft. Cleveland traded it's fifth round pick for this year to the Dallas Cowboys to move up to the 104th spot and pick Bell, a 6'1", 239 lb linebacker.
Not long after that Cleveland made another deal with Dallas, sending them a third round pick in 2009 in exchange for the 111th spot which they used to choose Martin Rucker, TE, Missouri. Rucker, 6'4", 251 lbs, had 84 receptions last year with Missouri and broke the school's record for catches in a season and led the nation in receptions per game by a tight end.
In the sixth round, Cleveland chose Ahtyba Rubin, a 6'2", 315 lb defensive tackle from Iowa State and Paul Hubbard, a 6'2", 221 lb wide receiver form Wisconsin. The Browns received the extra sixth round pick from last years trade that sent Charlie Frye to Seattle.
In the seventh and final round Cleveland chose Alex Hall, a 6'5", 219 lb defensive end from St. Augustine.

Will 2008 Be The Year of The Browns
In 2007 Cleveland saw a dramatic improvement over the previous year and fell just short of the playoffs. To improve on last years success Cleveland added some depth and experience to it's wide receiver corps by acquiring Donte Stallworth from New England. Stallworth, along with Braylon Edwards at the other wideout and Kellen Winslow at tight end should pose a lot of problems for opposing defenses. The Browns already solid offensive line returning intact as well as running back Jamal Lewis returning Cleveland's offense could be a force to reckon with as it was in 2007.
One question on a lot of people's minds will be who will start at quarterback. I think almost for sure that Crennell will go with Derek Anderson at quarterback rather than Brady Quinn who has looked good in the limited playing time he's had but is still for the most part untested. But we all know that if Anderson struggles that the fans will be calling for Brady. Will Crennell make a quarterback change if Anderson struggles early? That's one of the tough calls of coaching and we'll have to see how it plays out.
Cleveland has also made some changes on defense that hopefully will put more pressure on opposing quarterbacks this season. With the addition of Shaun Rogers and Corey Williams to the defensive line the Browns should see an increase in their sack totals this year and improve a run defense that has been a team weakness.
But with Leigh Bodden gone in a trade deal and now Devon Holly injured Cleveland is left thin at cornerback and will most likely start two second year men at corner, Eric Wright and Brandon McDonald
both of whom had good rookie seasons. Cleveland also added veteran DB Terry Cousin who will most likely play as a nickel back. Cornerback might be the most watched position this year beginning with opening day when Cleveland hosts the Dallas Cowboys.
I see Cleveland finally overtaking Pittsburgh and winning the AFC North in 2008.
I think the division will go as follows:
1. Cleveland- Improvements to the defense and wide receiver depth will put Cleveland over the top.
2. Pittsburgh- Last year Pittsburgh had a lot of trouble protecting the passer, especially late in the year. If they don't get a handle on their pass protection this year, well it might be a long year.
3. Cincinnati- The Bengals really disappointed me last year when they seemed to lose their composure when I thought they had the talent to win the division. There still seems to be a lot of disruptive people on that team. Could be Marvin Lewis' last season if he can't turn things around.
4. Baltimore- The Ravens have a rookie coach this year and there will be some changes I'm sure, but I don't think John Harbaugh can turn around their anemic offense in just one year. The once dominant defense is still good, but no longer decides games.

- Eric Steinbach, OL, From Cincinnati
In his four years with the Bengals, the 2003 second-round draft choice from Iowa started at all three offensive line positions -- guard, tackle and center. But the vast majority of his time has been at left guard. Of his 62 career starts, 59 have been there. He started twice at left tackle -- once each in the last two seasons, including the first meeting with the Browns in 2006 -- and also last year at center once. - Kenny Wright, CB, From Washington
Wright (6-foot-1, 207) is a nine-year NFL veteran who played in all 16 games for the Redskins last season, totaling 39 tackles and 1 interception. - Antwan Peek, OLB, From Houston
Antwan Peek, who signed a three-year contract with the team Saturday night, provides depth and athleticism at outside linebacker. He played his first three years in the Texans' 3-4 defense and became expendable because the Texans switched to a 4-3 last season. - Jamal Lewis, RB, From Baltimore
