How Clicker Training Dogs Works

Clicker training dogs is an excellent way of training your dog. It is being used in recent times with a lot of success for training all kinds of dogs, even rescue dogs.

What the clicker does is mark a certain behavior. When you want to train your dog to perform a certain action you press the clicker at the precise moment that the dog does what you want him to do, so that they associate the action with the sound of the clicker. At that same moment you reward them with a treat.

Getting Your Dog to Respond to the Clicker

In order to get them used to the sound of the clicker and what it means, you start out by clicking and immediately giving them a treat. You repeat this about 30 times so that they get to associate the clicker with a treat.

After they make the association between clicker and treat, you start training them using this method. They will respond to the clicker, and even feel stimulated by it.

The Clicker Training Dog Tool

The clicker is a small plastic device. It is sold at most pet stores and costs about $1.00. It is an effective little training weapon, which is very much preferred and used by trainers.

Advantages of Clicker Dog Training

As you train the dog you should also make different hand signals for the desired behavior. This way you can slowly wean the dog away from the clicker and the dog will then follow your hand signals for your desired behavior.

Clicker training dogs is a very positive form of training. It is not necessary to pull or jerk your dog or hurt it in any way whatsoever. The dogs seem to enjoy following the sound of the clicker and pleasing the owner.

Clicker Training is Very Effective

Clicker training is used to train the dolphins and orcas at Sea World. It is this distinctive sound that also produces the desired effect in these creatures.

You can use clicker training to teach your dog any kind of behavior. Starting with sitting, fetching, or the most basic commands to more advanced competition and service behavior.
