My Top 5 List of Things to Take Climbing
From a girls point of view :-)
Here are my top 5 things to take on a climbing trip. Don't think these are from an experienced climber! I have only been once or twice but i hope that they get you thinking about what gear to take.
1. Footwear - One of the most important pieces of equipment to take on a climbing trip is a decent pair of climbing shoes. I know it's easy to get carried away with cheap (but pretty :-)) shoes from some of the outdoor shops, but it really does pay to get a pair from a decent brand such as Mad Rock or Red Chili. I would also look at decent pair of approach shoes. Merrell make some good ones for women, and others like Salomon (which are my favourite!) are excellent.
2.Helmet - Make sure that you get a helmet that is a good fit, these things don't look great, but if it's a choice between my hair or a cracked skull....I know which one I'd choose.
3.Gloves - Rock climbing gloves such as these from Peglers
4. Ropes - Take a steer from your tour guide or an experienced climber on these. A bit like the tyres on your car, they are one of the only things between you and a hard floor.
5. Lunch. Ok ok, i know there may be a few more important things for this list, but if you are like me, then any form of activity is a no no on an empty stomach. Get some advice on energy food, and make sure you drink plenty of water.
I'm in no way an expert on climbing, please use this article as a thought provoker! If you want to get a little more serious read guides from sites such as Planet Fear
