Where to find royalty free clip art and images online
Ranked #1,007 in Arts & Design, #12,680 overall
Looking for royalty free images online?
Why use clip art?
Clip Art is a fun way to customize your website and add color, images and designs to make your project unique.
Finding clip art is not as easy as you would think. Most people spend many hours online searching for that perfect image - I was one of those people - Here I will list some of the better sites which I have encountered along the way.
These days a person does not need to be experienced or spend a fortune just to add a little spice to their website or blog. You can find many quality images on the internet quick, simple and sometimes ... even free!
Free Sites ?
There are many free sites on the web which offer royalty free images and while you may get quantity, usually the quality is compromised and you'll most likely find quite cartoony pictures but definitely useable for personal projects like blogs and websites. A good site for free, royalty free images is the Morguefile.
Click here to visit Morgue file Morguefile offers a nice selection of free, basic images for both commercial and personal use. A fun, easy to use site with many photos for simple and amateur projects !
Public Domain Pictures is another good free site! Click here to visit Public Domain Pictures
All the photos on Public Domain Pictures are free to use for commercial use and there are several categories to choose from. You can even use the photos on here for commercial re-sale products like t-shirts, mugs & hats but the graphics won't be the best quality or high resolution but definitely useable.
Another site for free, royalty free images is Hasslefreeclipart.com
Click here to visit Hassle Free Clipart This site offers clip art completely free to use with no strings attached! An nice selection of colorful clipart for both commercial and person use. Images from here can be used on blogs, homepages and other personal projects ...but again, not the best resolution or quality.
Affordable paid sites
When you have an important project or when you require amazing graphics for websites, Myspace, Facebook and projects like T-Shirts, Calenders, Mugs etc. you will need shell out a little cash. Most of these sites offer subscriptions which range from affordable to pricey. Definitely worth the price for unique graphics for commercial projects like Cafepress & Zazzle
Graphics Factory is the best site I've found for quality clip art and other graphics, HANDS DOWN! And Its the only site I currently have a membership with
All of images on Graphics Factory are royalty free and available for commercial use. You can use the images on items you make and sell like books, t-shirts, greeting cards, web sites, games, logos, iPhone apps, and just about anything else you can think of.
There are millions of high quality and original clip art you can't find anywhere else because they employ a team of artists making fresh images often. And if you'd like you can modify the images to make them even more unique. They provide the vector versions of the images, so you can change them and make them work as you need to (Vector clip-art are editable images that can scale to any size without getting distorted)
The website is actually amazingly easy to use. There's an "image search engine" and category tabs - just search for your desired image and download! Personally I've experienced nothing but a lightening fast and hassle-free download process. It takes about a minute to sign up and you get instant digital access (no CD'S)
The memberships fee includes unlimited downloads.

- Fantastic! I can't believe after all these years that I never discovered Graphics Factory. Their membership fee is so-o-o-o-o reasonable. I used to have membership in iClipart (which was great), but their rates just kept going up and up until I finally quit.
I have been doing some research on the use of morgueFile images on print-on-demand products. So far, most of what I have read indicates that this violates the "standalone" usage clause in the TOS. The reason being that a specific image would be the "primary" part of a product being the image. For example, without the graphic, a t-shirt would just be a plain t-shirt. Therefore, (their argument) the graphic would be considered the primary reason bought a PARTICULAR t-shirt. I am continuing to research and will let you know if I can either confirm or deny this claim.

- Sweet lens! Also check out http://arenacreative.com for royalty free stock graphics, stock images, and stock photos on the cheap - prices range from $2 - $10 (but none are able to be licensed for use on print-on-demand websites like cafepress or zazzle). If it's a limited print run of products that you need the artwork for, there is a special extended license for those type of uses.
