The Film Utopia Blog
New Cultural Perspectives in the age of Digital Media Production
www.filmutopia.co.uk.
Film making is more than just a business, it is the way modern western cultures tell their stories... and with the rapid technological changes in both production and distribution this is an industry that has never been so open to innovative development.
We are living in interesting times.
This blog is both an introduction to Film Utopia as a company: containing my company showreel, the mission statement and ethos... and the same time it's also a personal exploration of the philosophical challenges and creative opportunities available in the rapidly evolving film industry.

Books That Changed My Life
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance: An Inquiry into Values (P.S.)
The core questions of western thought and philosophy explored through descriptions of motorcycle repair.
This is the book that turned me onto Western analytic philosophy and in turn took me to university.
If I was stranded on a desert island with just one book, this would be the one.
Cryptonomicon
A novel about code breaking, money as a concept and the evolution of computer technology.
I first discovered Neal Stephenson through his first novel "Zodiac" and immediately connected with his love of science.
Since then each of his books has become more and more dense in historical perspective and scientific research.
Cryptonomicon was a huge evolutionary jump in his writing from straight science fiction writer to something more profound. I would recommend it to anyone interested in modern culture.
Apple Pro Training Series: Final Cut Pro 6
If you want to be a professional video editor then this book is a great starting place.
It takes you from zero knowledge to competence on Final Cut Pro 6 with a series of well constructed lessons.
I never came into film making to become an editor... but as multi-skilling became more important to my business this book made the transition from non-editor to editor easy.
