Clone WordPress For Maximum Time Management

Ranked #14,846 in Computers & Electronics, #299,162 overall

What Am I Talking About?

First, an introduction. I clone WordPress blogs. My niche is the website flipping niche. At times, I may need to be able to deploy several websites on several domains in a short time frame. Maybe a day, maybe more. You see, the problem here is that creating websites takes a lot of time, considering that WordPress is my platform of choice, the simple process of creating a blog, adding the right plugins, and theming it, well... that takes up a lot of time. I just want to get into the customization aspect of the process, and start adding some great content.

However, the installation process can at times take anywhere up to an hour of my time, or even more, and to be as blunt as possible about it, my time is worth more than that. The installation of any kind of blogging or CMS software is just time spend doing something that will not pay off until the content creation phase starts.

Here's The Thing...

I like my blogs to be good.

There is a balance here. Most of the time, to get anything done right, you need to do it right. By that, I mean no cutting corners, no half done jobs, as this is going to eat into your time later on down the track. I can promise you this because I have been there, I have wasted time getting these kinds of mess ups fixed, and believe me folks, it is not pretty.

My usual installation of WordPress will include quite a lot. There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes where I am concerned, a lot of research goes into my blogs, and I really like this to be a one off kind of thing. I like to do the research, then find the best possible way to deploy as soon as possible, as many times as needed.

The problem is that I have tried to clone wordpress blogs time and time again, I have had some luck, and I have had other experiences where it just has not wanted to work.

Things Can Go Wrong Big Time!

...and believe me, I have seen them all!

When you clone WordPress blogs, plenty of things can go wrong.
  • The files can have incorrect permissions resulting in 404 errors everywhere
  • There can be problems backing up or restoring the mySQL database on the new hosting account
  • There can be problems with the directory structure of the new hosting account
  • Your PHP.ini file may not allow you to do simple functions such as Permalinks
  • Plenty more....

The Result Of My Testing

Clone WordPress TestingSo, being a bit of a nerd when it comes to being efficient, I have spent the past 6 months or so researching products that simply will allow me to clone wordpress installations, and to be quite frank, I have had absolutely no luck at all. Most of them make some really great promises, but either dont work with my Hostgator account, but will work with my Bluehost account, and visa versa.

To put it bluntly, it has been a bit of a nightmare, and I have been left doing things manually for some time now.

That was until I saw a tweet come through in my feed one day.

I Made A Big Discovery

WPtwin WordPress Cloner Script

Clone WordPressSo, I was listening to my Twitter feed one day, and a friend of mine started talking about this great script that allows you to clone wordpress blogs in 57 seconds. Now, I didn't believe that for a second, but I have an open mind, so I gave it a go. Now, I wont lie to you here, the first time that I tried this script, it took me around 5 minutes to understand how it works and deploy the blog on a new domain, however it now takes me around two minutes to backup and delopy a wordpress clone installation on a new domain.

What this has done for me is amazing. it has reduced the amount of time that it takes me to get jobs done, and helps me get more into the process of content creation rather than being stuck in the process of getting the blog installed in the first place.

So, What Is This Software?

It's not a secret...

Clone WordPress With WPtwin

The software that I use is called WPtwin. It is a simple set of PHP files that you upload to your domains root directory, browse to the location of the file, and it really is that simple. Once you have created a clone file of your blog, you simply upload the file and the deploy script, navigate to that directory, and you are on your way.

If you want to check the software out, just click on the big image, and you are on your way. It comes with my highest recommendation.

Let Me Know What You Think

I have made this recommendation to a good handful of my readers, and the verdict is unanimous. However, I would love to hear your stories using this software, and how it has impacted the way that you do things. Please, comment below and let me know what you think!
