What kind of camera do you use? I have a Fuji X10 that I really like but it won't focus on clouds. The only way I can get it to focus is to include something with a hard edge (horizon, etc) in the picture but that's not possible for some shots and for others, the "edge" is in focus but not the clouds.

Congratulations on your 3rd place win in the April Fresh Squid Contest. A wonderfully done story about clouds -- one of my favorite subjects.

I am a big fan of weather in general and am fascinated by clouds. My favorite are cumulonimbus, because I love to watch thunderstorms. My favorite part is watching these supercell clouds forming just before a storm. The most interesting - and scariest - cloud I ever saw was a 'Wall Cloud' that accompanied a fierce T-storm with unbelievable winds in central Missouri one summer evening. The tornado sirens went off and straight-line winds sheared off small trees up and down our block, but no tornado was spotted. We only saw the wall cloud for a few moments before taking shelter in a safe interior section of our home, but saw the aftermath once the storm passed. BTW, I have a large poster of a "Cloud Chart" hanging on a wall in my garage and often refer to it when checking out the clouds in the sky. I really enjoyed your 'cloud' story!
  • LKW31 May 5, 2010 @ 12:12 pm | delete
Thank you for looking, and for your amazing story. Wow, I have never seen a wall cloud - it sounds fascinating and scary too! There's going to be a sequel to this lens soon, I think a wall cloud will have to feature!
