Pioneer Kansas Family

My dad, Clyde Owen Martin, is the subject for my mom's latest book. Some of my essays and my sister Cindy's are included as well. While compiling my mom's writing and research into the book, I uncovered some family history that was new to me. We also turned up some vintage family pictures that I'd not seen before.

To get the whole story, I recommend that you get Dad's book. Click on the book cover below or go to www.gailmartin.wordpress.com to order it.

In this lens, I'll share some of the photos, information and family tree with you.

Names on the Family Tree

My Dad's father was Charles Lorenzo Martin and his mother was Cora Myrle Joy. When you go back another generation you'll see Kennedy as well. Below are names you'll see on the family tree:
  • Martin
    Joy
    Kennedy
    Buckland
    Stone
    Summers
    Ellison
    Carroll
    Richard

Clyde Martin's Family Tree

Clyde's mother worked on the family genealogy for many years. After her death, his wife, Gail Lee Martin, took it up and pursued it diligently.

Dad's Favorite Authors

He's a big fan of westerns, but reads widely. When he's not watching baseball on TV, he probably has a vintage book in his hand, rereading Zane Grey for the fifth time.

The Battle of Black Jack took place on June 2, 1856, when anti-slavery forces, led by the noted abolitionist John Brown, attacked the encampment of Henry C. Pate near Baldwin City, Kansas.
