Why Open Source CMS ?
or content management systems ... period
It's a well-known fact that "webmasters love Joomla!" and I'm one of them. One doesn't need (although I have and use heavily...) Dreamweaver, for instance. Themes can be edited within the CMS administrator's section. There are so many modules for Joomla! and I'll make you a list with some easy non-tech description. For instance, you can add a module to display googleads, or add a module to provide e-commerce - all built-in to the Joomla site.
Check out the JOOMLA community
great support, excellent place to learn a bit about CMS
This is a blog about "Creating a Blog With Joomla" ! The JOOMLA community is helpful and generous. If you had a Joomla website, you could add a "blog module" (or have your Joomla webmaster set it up for you). A blog module is just one of many, many functional modules (add-ons) for a great Joomla website. See my list!

or, call me--I've put in 10 years.
I guess I would say JOOMLA is like Squidoo on steroids.... Joomla is highly customizable with many more advanced and sophisticated "modules" than Squidoo. Most people can probably create a basic Squidoo page, but it takes a lot of time to learn the "tricks" whether Squidoo or Joomla or other CMS "how-to's". For instance, can YOU try this:
"A very commonly used trick on Squidoo Lenses is to add an floating image to a module, and let the text flow around it - see how to do this on the HTML Tricks lens.

But what if you wanted to have a caption too, or not have an image at all?
Here is a floating paragraph that you can have anything you like in, and the surrounding text will flow around it.
You can have the box on the left or the right, and a width of your choice. Take the opportunity to include other styles at the same time, such as fonts, colors, backgrounds and borders."
You too can learn how to Squidoo -- how to create great lenses with this step-by-step primer on how-to Squidoo.

This step-by-step primer gives you plenty of how-to information on how to get started building your Squidoo lens. Get some useful tips about how to build that lens with plenty of helpful pictures of the various templates you can use. I've also included some formatting code that you can use to spiff up your lenses. After you have built that lens, you'll learn what to do with it to get more traffic.

Green goo and tech tips
I can help you, let me, let me!
the friendliest webmaster (webmistress? webgenie? joomgurl?) I know...
My own site is a constant work in progress - actually, it's my "play site" where I test new modules, play with themes, and offer my services! ImageHOST is one of two of my primary businesses and is co-mingled with RAMtech Remote. RAMtech offers long-distance computer support by using a "remote control" application called RSS. It's sort of like logmein, but has more capability. For instance, if I need to reboot your computer in SAFE mode, I can do that remotely. Most people contact me because their computers are slow and they think they might have a virus or spyware lurking. Some people have trouble installing a new program application and I can do that remotely, as well! One thing ALL MY CLIENTS have in common: THEY THINK IT'S REALLY COOL that I can fix their computer from whereever they are (that has internet connection).
"In a recession,
we are obliged
as employers, to engage
in and explore the
greenest infrastructure
available so as to reduce the energy
requirements to produce our services;
to reduce green house gases
by eliminating office buildings,
and parking lots, and people spending hours a day,
driving to and fro unnecesarily
when a fax or phone call or VPN
would work just as well"
With the technology advances over the last years, I can't imagine why most office-type employers (lawyers, accountants, real estate agencies, etc.) don't send their employees home with a full computer setup, a webcam, high-speed internet service, VOIP, instant messaging, scanner and fax... how "green-collar" can you get?
Maybe the not-so-tech-saavy management personnel just doesn't realize the "paperless office" is now a reality, that document encryption secures online transmissions, that webcams are inexpensive. What are big overhead costs for a business - office space, energy, parking, premises insurance, utilities, phone systems, office gossip, pilfering ... there is a long list of overhead expenses that have skyrocketed and in the meantime technology has dropped in price and increased in reliability and productivity. With the planet in a crisis, if 25% of employers would send home 50% of their office staff to work, think of the gasoline saved, the electricity, the reduction of pollutants! After all, those workers leave their homes every morning, they have to pay for that space anyway (their rent or mortgage), buy gas to drive 20 miles to park in a parking structure that requires lighting and maintenance. Then, these workers pay for their home utilities to stay on for the 10 hours a day that nobody's home anyway... while they work in an office cubicle that requires lighting, heat, cooling, furniture, equipment.... INSANITY!
All these workers are clogging up the freeways (and their lungs) on their way home to turn on their home computers connected to the internet, equipped with printers
and some office suite... and they pay for a telephone service they don't use the 10 hours a day they are either going to or from or at their office building.
That skyscraper or 4-story office building costs a lot of planetary sorrow - taking up natural habitat space, or space to grow a cloned vegetable, produces tons of air pollution from energy production and consumption, not to mention the millions of dollars that could be put to better use by supporting families working at home.
