CNA background and experiences
I made few articles about CNA. I was working as a Clinical Assistant in a long term care facility in our Island, then they offered CNA training or classes for their employees and I took the chance. The training was not totally free, but the facility shouldered all tuition and expenses and if you pass the course, you will sign a contract to serve at least 1 year or else you will pay them back. Failure in passing the course means you have to pay them back too. Some facilities offered those courses or trainings to their employees and sometimes invite the public if anyone is interested.
No matter where and how you got your Certified Nursing Assistant training and certifications, we are still working in the same field. You may or may not agree with me in this article but these are all my experiences and opinions. Please feel free to add your suggestions or feedback at the end of this post.

I will answer some questions to the best of my knowledge as a former CNA.
I will answer some questions to the best of my knowledge as a former CNA.
- 1Can I handle being a CNA? - Yes, you can. It takes a year before you can finally say that you can handle it well. At that time you will be very adjusted with the job. Each resident has a care plan, whether it is one, two or three person assist, do not worry about transferring and lifting. If you are not sure of what you are doing, then it's time to ask questions to your co-workers or even to the nurses and floor managers.

2Everything you need to know about care assistant work.
Day shift
Every morning you will grab your hamper and table filled with beddings, hospital gowns etc. Prepare your own hamper for dirty laundries. Change the beddings if it is dirty and crumpled and if the resident is up on his chair. Help serve breakfast, pick up trays after breakfast, serve snacks, serve lunch, pick up trays etc.
Night Shift and evening shift
Almost the same routine except beddings. -
3"care plan" for combative residents.
As far as I remember, if any of the CNA members in our group has combative residents, we need to have at least 3 people. Based on my experience, these residents will hit you (her/his hand should be held by another member), they kick too, so you better wrap the blanket around her legs to prevent from kicking and they spit too and bite. You should be very careful not to get hurt and do not also hurt the resident. Do not wear jewelries like dangling earrings or necklaces. -
4Is cna job easy to perform?
I think it is easy if you have mastered all the skills. You need to know your residents well, read their care plan, ask co-workers who worked with them. Helping other CNA is beneficial because, it will make job easier and you will learn each other's technique and skills. First few days, weeks and months are very challenging. -
