Welcome!

The Syracuse Eagles Soccer team, is a home school, varsity and JV team sponsored by Syracuse LEAH chapter, that includes team members from the Syracuse area.

This lens will focus on places the team plays games at. It will provide information about the home and away fields, how to get there and where to eat.

Eagle's Field

Note that there are TWO (2) fields that the Syracuse Eagles play on.

Melzer Park: This field is where the Eagle's boy's and girl's team practice and play games. Field has two port-a-pots. The park also has a picnic shelter, playground, tennis court, and baseball fields. Any Eagles Home game that is NOT played on a Friday will be played at this location.

Lysander Park: Any Syracuse Eagles HOME game that is played on FRIDAY is played at the Lysander Park field, see directions below.

Map: Meltzer Park: Practice will be located at Meltzer Park, off Stearns Road, in Clay. Any home game that is NOT on Friday will be played at this location.

Directions: From Thruway to Meltzer Park: Google To get from the Thruway to the fields:

- From I90, get off at exit 36
- Take R81 north
- Get off at exit 30, turn left on Rt 31
- Head west about 3 miles on Rt 31 towards Clay & Baldwinsvill, NY
- 5300 Grace Evangelical Covenant Church is just before you make the left turn on Stearns Rd.
- Turn Left on Stearns Rd, go a short distance (2/10 of a mile roughly)
- Turn left into Meltzers Park
Directions: NYS Thruway to Lysander Field: Get off at exit 39
Take Rt 690 North
Rt 690 comes to an end at a T, turn Right on to Oswego Rd
Field is down the road about 0.9 miles

Comments:

Field is one of the better fields in the ESCAL league. Grass can be a little longer, so ball speed is a little slower

Directions: From Nedrow Exit 81: Take 81 South to Exit 5. Take a left at the light onto Front Street. Take a left at the second light onto Bevier Street.Ostiningo Park is on the left and the field is at the end of the loop on the left.

Travel Time/Distance: About 40min from the 81/481 interchange
Rest Rooms: Yes, two port-a-pots on either side of the field

Comments:

Field can be hard to find for people coming the first time. Keep in mind that you cannot see the field from Rt 13

Field is decent, would rank as middle of ESCAL league. One corner turns up at the east end. Reasonably flat, grass is usually groomed short, so game is faster.

Directions: 81/481 to Field: The field is in a non-descript place: head down 81, get off the Homer exit and pickup 281 south. When you get to the place where Rt 13 merges with 281, you're close. In about .7mile, you're looking for a road/drive on the right, just past the JM Murray Center (on the right). If you've come to Bennie Rd., Cortland Virgil Rd, or a Dental place, you've gone too far.
Satellite View: In this picture you'll see a field with soccer goals to the right of JM Murray. You can see the road/drive way heading to the field - it looks like a dirt road.
Eat Place: McDonald's: McDonalds is very close to the field. You may want to stop here to use the rest rooms before heading to the field.
Eat Place: A&W All American: This is a Cortland classic. If going to eat at A&W, recommend calling ahead to say the team is coming, they appreciate the heads up: (607) 756-2021, or have someone get there early.

Comments

Field is of medium quality, good size although seems narrow. Surface is relatively flat but does have bumps and dips that make the ball unpredictable

If there's been a lot of rain, this field can be very muddy

No place to get out of rain

Location: Corning Field: Map showing location of Corning Fields. Note that they are at the end of Corning Blvd on St. Mihel St. On Google maps it shows a baseball field, but it's not a baseball field any more.

Field is probably the second worst in the ESCAL League, has a rolling surface on the side of a hill.

Comments:

This field is the poorest quality in the ESCAL league: smaller than all the other, has a 'hill' at the south end, and has dips/holes in field.

In the past, the school provides a single ref who is not certified and is associated with the school

Location: School is right across from the School of Chiropractor, just past an intersection with a light.

Directions: From the 481/Thruway exit to Holy Cross

Game Place: North Spencer

Travel Time/Distance: 72miles, 1hr 35min
Rest Rooms: Yes, one port-a-pot
Address: In the town of Spencer, the entrance to these fields is located on the corner of Temple Ln. and Guiles Rd. in Spencer. The road is a dirt road.

Directions: Coming from Ithaca on Rt 34/96, in Spencer take a left onto Rt 96. Go about .3miles, take right onto Temple Ln.
Note that the fields are not at the school.

Comments:

This field tends to run smaller that other fields and the goals are smaller

If raining, there is a shelter to put things, get shoes on, etc.

No fast food from N.Spencer up to Ithica

Don't recommend the Burger King just south of Ithica - they didn't give free meal to coach!

The field is near the North Rose Elementary School, North Rose, NY. It's 0.2 miles north of the intersection of Co Rd 256/5th Rd. and Slater Rd.

Comments:

This is one of the best fields in the ESCAL league - you can see where this was re-surfaced.

Location: Just north of the intersection of 5th Rd and Slater Rd.
Directions: Syracuse to Oswego Field: Directions from 690 near thruway to field
Directions: 5th Rd/Slater Rd to Field: Field is 0.2 miles north of the intersection of Co Rd 256/5th Rd. and Slater Rd.
Eat Place: McDonald's: Gave coach free meal! Just off of Rt 104 on way back to Syracuse.

Game Place: Valley Heights Christian Academy

Travel Time: 1hr 30min from 81/481 South of Syracuse to Norwich field. Name of the field is Weiler Park on Boarden Ave.
Rest Rooms: Yes, close to field - these are usually not clean and the light has been out every time we've played there. Rest room is dark at night games.

Comments:

Field is one of the better fields in the league and games are typically played under the lights

There are actually three ways to get to the field: (1) down Rt 81, (2) Rt 20, then South on R12, and (3) Rt 80 to Sherburne, then South on Rt 12. Route will depend on where you're coming from and how car sick your passengers get!

This route takes Rt 20 East to Rt 46 South. Rt 46 runs into Rt 12, which goes into Norwich

Directions: from Thruway: Map from Thruway exit 44 to Calvery Chapel.

- Take the Thruway to west to exit 44.
- Head south on Route 332, cross Route 96 and travel about 3 miles.
- The school/church is on the left.

Route 332 is a divided highway -- you will have to continue to the traffic light just past the school and make a U-turn to get in the other lane in order to turn into the parking lot. The field and parking is behind the building.
The school building will NOT be open after 5:00 -- no restrooms after that.

Eat Place: McDonalds: On the corner of 332 and 96 on the way between Thruway and fields.

Game Place: Cohocton

Travel Tim/Distance: From Exit 39 on the Thruway (690) it's about 1hr 40min, 95 miles
Rest Rooms: Open and good

Fields have lights. There are probably two main ways of getting there. The first is to get off at exit 43 and take Rt 21 South. The other way is to go over to Exit 46 and take Rt 390 South. This is longer, but in bad weather or when coming home and you're tired, this is a good way.

Eat Place: Typically we stop at a rest area on the Thruway on the way back. This gives us two choices of fast food.

Location: There is a soccer complex with several fields. The field they typically play on is accessed from the St Jude Drive side.
Directions: From Thruway exit 43: Get off at exit 43 and take Rt 21 South through Canandaigua. Go past the end of Canandaigua Lake, go through Naples (lots of signs for grape pies...)
Rt. 21 will turn into 371. When you get into Cohocton, turn right onto Maple Ave. Take 3rd left onto Erie St. Fields will be on the left.

When going home or bad weather, recommend taking Rt 390

Game Place: Greater Rochester LEAH

Travel Time/Distance: 1.5hrs, 90 miles
Not having traveled there, it looks like there are a couple options - will update as we get more experience. Google maps takes you Rt 490 through down town Rochester. That doesn't seem like a good idea.

Eagles have played FLM Intensity at this location. Note that there are 8 soccer fields here, 2 south of Taughannock Blvd on the baseball fields, the rest on the lake/north side. For a fall 2009 game we played on field IIIB which is on the lake side of Taughannock, right in the middle.

Rest Rooms: Yes - recommend you stop there before going to the fields - bit of a hike.

Location: This map shows Cananadaigua Road running north/south. One the left is a road that goes into the Bullis Park sport fields. Narrow road, road will go back a ways going north west, then north. Field on the left. Hit the bathroom first...

Travel Tim/Distance: From 481 Exit, Rt 90 to Messiah Christian School, N. Hartford, 41 miles, about 45min
Rest Rooms: No bathrooms at the field, use church across the street.

Directions: From 481 Exit, Thruway

Take Thruway(90) East to exit 32, Westmoreland.

After toll booth take a right, follow down hill to a T.

Left onto Rt. 233. Follow Rt. 233 approximately 4 miles to intersection of Rt. 5.

Left onto Rt. 5 and go approximately 5-6 miles.

When you see a Pizza Hut sign you will make a right onto Middlesettlement rd. at the intersection. You actually make a right before you enter the intersection with the light.

Go 1/4 mile till you see Bible Baptist Church on right, field is directly across the street from the Church.

You can park at the field - it's a fairly steep from the main road down to the field. If it's been raining, don't recommend parking down there.

May want to stop by the church first and use the restrooms before heading down to the field

Zebb's in Syracuse/Mattydale is amazing! So I have high hopes for this one! They grind their own meat, make their own rolls. If nothing else, just run in and get a six-pack of chocolate chip cookies - very good!

Right near the mall seem to be a couple fast food places (McDonald's, Burger King). Take Rt 5B north from Church and a left on to Rt 5 East just down the street from the intersection is the mall.

Game Place: New Life

Travel Tim/Distance: From Exit 34 on Thruway about 50 miles
Rest Rooms: Outhouse You will pass restraunts as you come into Earville. You may want to stop at one before you arrive at the school.

Directions: Canastota to Fields: Directions: Take the Thruway east to the exit 34. Take Route 5 east to Route 46 south. Take 46 through Hamilton to Route 12B, approximately 3-4 miles past Colgate College. At the only light in Earlville, turn right and then take the first right onto Fayette Street. The school is one block on the left, with the field behind the school.

This is probably one of the best fields we play on!

- Take the Thruway west and get off at exit 45. for Route 490.
- Take 490 West to 390 North and get off at the Latta Road (Rt18) exit (Exit 26).
- Turn left and go 3 to 4 miles and turn right onto North Greece Road.
- Grace and Truth Park is just past the elementary school on the left.

Take Route 81 south,

Route 17 west to exit #67 South (Vestal - 434 and
26).

Loop on to Rt. 26 and go over the bridge, then exit right for Route
434.

At the red light turn left onto 434 West. Go 2 1/2 miles through five
lights, then take the next left (no light) onto Owego Road.
