Another Day In Paradise - Coastal Pictures From SE Alaska
The coastal area near the mouth of the Bering glacier offers beautiful picture opportunities, sometimes including brown bears or eagles. Come along as we fly from Anchorage to Cordova, and then with a Cessna 206 single-prop 4-seater out to the Tsiu river area. I hope you enjoy our trip!
From Anchorage To Cordova, Alaska
Across coastal regions, mountains, and glaciers
The Amazing Bering Glacier
Largest glacier in North America!
The Coastal Plains Of The Tsiu River
A barely touched piece of nature in the last frontier...

We land at the Driftwood Lodge, the base camp for our coastal pictures expedition. (Full disclosure: I'm the executive chef of this lodge, and the pictures for this page were taken during the 2008 silver salmon season.)

You can see the Bering glacier from the lodge - about 10 miles away. (The white strip coming out of the mountains, way back on the horizon.)

Let's Go Coastal!
It's about 15 minutes to walk - 5 minutes on a 4-wheeler (ATV)
Talking About Brown Bears...
I "shot" these when they came around the lodge, one day...
The bears I've met...
A few clips showing brown bears as they come around our lodge in Alaska. They are attracted by the scents from Chef Keem's kitchen, but they also like the wild strawberries on the surrounding grounds.

Are You Still Breathing?
I'd like to ask you a few questions before we fly outta here...
It's Time To Fly Back - Into Civilization
For a civilized environment, I'd rather stay here!
On second thought - not everyone acts civilized around here...!

Our friend Tony had to swim in the ocean (for 5 seconds - burr!) and sunbathe on a driftwood log (ahem!)...

Chefs Keem and Karen thank you for your visit. Now let's hop on the plane, back to Cordova!

Karen asks: "Can I take this on the plane with me?" (In case you're wondering - it's kelp.) Ready, Karen?

More Sightseeing On Our Return Flight...
There's one very interesting spot coming up...
As we're flying over coastal marshland and hills...

...we're approaching the point where Vitus Bering landed when he discovered Alaska - Cape Suckling!

We're crossing the Copper River Delta...

...pass by the Childs glacier and through the mountains - into Cordava, City Airport.

Good-bye - Driftwood Lodge and Mount Steller...

...and good-bye, Tony. Don't freeze your hiney off!

- Ah, my dear Achim! You have so inspired me -- I remember wanting so badly to live in Florida and I made that happen -- so, would you want to live in Alaska longer than you do each summer?
