Great Roller Coasters

This site is dedicated to the roller coasters of the world. From the Matterhorn Bobsleds at Disneyland to the Kingda Ka in New Jersey, roller coasters are part of every great amusement park.

Roller coasters don't have to be the biggest or the fastest to be great, although it does help. I hope you enjoy reading up on my thoughts of the various roller coasters of the world.

About the Author

I am a huge roller coaster fan. When I was five years old, I walked away from my parents and snuck on a roller coaster. This picture is one my mother managed to get after she realized where I was. I am the little blonde kid waving at the camera. Since this event, I have always loved roller coasters.

While I have only been on roller coasters in California and a few in Las Vegas, I know a lot about them throughout the world. I have even written a paper and given an oral report on roller coasters in college.

Roller Coaster of the Week

Superman: The Escape (Six Flags MAgic Mountain, Santa Clarita, California)

This ride is a great one. Powered by linear induction motors, the cart is accelerated up to 100 miles per hour, then goes vertical. Near the top, the rider sees superman looking down upon them. The cart then goes backward at the same speed and returns to the station.

This ride is the first ride to hit the century mark and go at least 100 miles per hour. Additionally, the linear induction motors create a smooth, constant acceleration for a very comfortable ride.

Overall, this is a rather simple ride, but very exciting. It's high tower stands out to anyone who passes by the park. The queue for this line has a great design going along with the superman theme, decorated like the Fortress of Solitude. Leave your kryptonite at home, as there are signs deeming it prohibited at the line entrance.

Previous Roller Coaster of the Week

Speed (Sahara Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada)

Sometimes the simplest roller coasters are the best. This ride last about thirty seconds but it is filled with thrills.

It shoots out of its nook in the building at a high speed and goes around a banked curve. It then speeds up more and goes through a loop. It then goes vertical, sending you backwards through the same track.

Like most roller coasters in Las Vegas, you must pay per ride, but all-day passes are available. The price is definitely worth it for this coaster. This is one of the few roller coasters outside of California I have had the pleasure of riding and it is great.
