Blue Kitchen Appliances

In centuries past, blue was the color of royalty, thus the particular shade of blue known as royal blue. Only those of royalty, and later those of great wealth, were able to wear blue due to the expense of making the rich blue dyes. The color blue signifies confidence, importance, stability, intelligence, strength, truth, optimism, freedom, and new beginnings. There are many common shades of blue. Cobalt, denim, ocean, cornflower, royal, and sky are just some of the terms that designate specific shades of blue.

Almost 50% of people claim blue as their favorite color. As the universal color of the sky and clear, clean water, blue has a cooling and calming effect. However, too much blue can lead to symptoms of depression. For this reason, blue is best used as a complementary color. Blue kitchen appliances, such as this cobalt blue Kitchenaid blender, and blue curtains in a while or taupe painted kitchen is an attractive combination.

If blue is your favorite color, consider decorating your kitchen in blues. There are many appliances available in several shades of blue.

So, What is a Water Oven, Anyway?

Water Oven

A water oven is an appliance that cooks food in vacuum sealed bags in their own juices. Meat or vegetables you want to cook are placed in a bag, seasonings (if desired) are added, then the bag is sealed and placed in the water oven. The oven is filled with water and cooks the food inside the bag. The temperature is precisely controlled, so that there is no possibility of burned food. According to all reports, meats cooked in a water oven is tender and delicious. However, since there is no roasting or searing, meat tends to come out of the oven a bit pale, which some people complain about. Because the food is sealed inside the vacuum bag, there is no loss of flavor or nutrients.

The water oven is about the size of a bread machine, and since there is no food touching the inside of the oven during cooking, cleanup is a breeze. Just wait till the water cools, then pour it out and wipe the oven dry. The main downside to the water oven is that you have to have a vacuum sealing machine, such as the FoodSaver, too, for it to work. The cost of the vacuum bags might increase the cost of the meal slightly, but it can be offset by using lower priced cuts of meat. Even meats that generally are tough are tender when cooked in the water oven.
