All about Cobb homes

Cobb homes are a awesome alternative for people with land but not much of a budget left.; They are very energy frugal and sturdy.; Be sure to check local regulations before building.

Cobb homes have been used for thousands of years, I can't wait to build my first Cobb House, it will be small probably like a 20 x 20 foot just so I can learn the process correctly.; I will turn that into a storage shed.

Cobb houses can be made of mud and straw as I build some small scale models I will take pictures.; Not only are Cobb houses cheap to build they are also very energy efficient .; By combining energy saving and low initial cost your return on investment can be as low as 2-5 years.;

Update I met a local Farmer who might trade Bails of hay for vegetables and berries.; Looks like I will build my small scale cobbhouse this spring.; Update way to much rain yuck Cobbhouse is going up next year just a small 10x10 Cobb House but it will be fun, dry and will last for 100 years.

A sustainable building, or green building is an outcome of a design philosophy which focuses on increasing the efficiency of resource use ? energy, water, and materials ? while reducing building impacts on human health and the environment during the building's lifecycle, through better siting, design, construction, operation, maintenance, and removal.Frej, Anne B., editor. Green Office Buildings: A Practical Guide to Development. Washington, D.C.: ULI--The Urban Land Institute, 2005. Pp 4?8 Though green building is interpreted in many different ways, a common view is that they should be designed and operated to reduce the overall impact of the built environment on human health and the natural environment by:

*Efficiently using energy, water, and other resources

*Protecting occupant health and improving employee productivity

*Reducing waste, pollution and environmental degradationBasic Information | Green Building |US EPA

A similar concept is natural building, which is usually on a smaller scale and tends to focus on the use of natural materials that are available locally.Hopkins, R. 2002. A Natural Way of Building. Transition Culture. Retrieved: 2007-03-30. Other related topics include sustainable design, green architecture, and energy efficient buildings.
