'Cobi NGai Jones' (born June 16, 1970 in Detroit, Michigan) is a former American soccer player who is currently an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League Soccer, whom he has been involved with as a player and coach since the teams inaugural season in 1996. Jones was one of a significant group of American national team stars who returned from overseas to aid the new American soccer league, coming home after spending half a season at Brazilian club Vasco da Gama. He is also the all-time leader in caps for the United States National Team.

A little history
The United States' all-time leader in caps, Cobi Jones appeared in 164 games for the US National Team between 1992-2004. He is one of the most reliable offensive players the US ever had, not to mention versatile, as Jones could play as a forward and on both sides of the midfield.His dreadlocks and colorful personality make Jones one of the most recognizable players in the US and one of the primary promoters of the sport in the country.
The only player in MLS history to play the with the same club for each of the League's first 11 season, Jones is the Galaxy's all-time leader in games played (281), goals (66) and assists (86). He is one of three players in MLS history to have scored 60 or more goals and added 80 or more assists and was named an All-Star in each of MLS' first seven seasons. He won his first MLS Cup Championship in 2002 after he anchored the Galaxy to its first championships in club history, the 2000 CONCACAF Champions' Cup and the 2001 U.S. Open Cup. Jones was then a major part of the Galaxy team that did "The Double" in 2005, winning both the MLS Cup and U.S. Open Cup for a second time.
Jones retired as a player at the end of the 2007 MLS season, and almost immediately took the position of assistant coach to LA's new team boss Ruud Gullit.

Jones began his professional career with Coventry City of the English Premier League and had trained with FC Köln of the Bundesliga. Cobi also played for Vasco de Gama (Brazil) before going to the MLS.
