Cocktail Infusers & Cocktail Recipes
The world of cocktails has been changing and mixologists now combine not just alcohol, but fruit juices, herbs, spices and teas.
Different liqueurs and flavored spirits are on the market and some head mixologists even make their own infused spirits to add to cocktails.
It was only a matter of time before a tea company introduced a teabag - or infusion - that you 'infuse' in alcohol instead of hot water. The tea company in question is Tea Forte and they have, at present, three different flavored of infusions which can lead to some really interesting and unique cocktails.
The infusions available at the moment are Lavender Citrus, Lemongrass Mint and Silkroad Chai.

Lavender Citrus Cocktail Infusion
Lavender Citrus infuses the flavor of white tea and lavender with grapefruit, bergamot and violet. The infusions do come with their own recipe book and one of the delicious recipes that are included with the Lavender Citrus infusion is the Lavender Pear Martini.
Lavender Pear Martini
1 Lavender Citrus Infusion
1 ½ oz vodka
3 oz peach nectar
1 fresh pear
Place the infuser in glass
Pour vodka over the infuser and steep to desired strength
Place infused vodka, pear nectar and ice into a cocktail shaker and shake well
Strain into a martini glass
Garnish with a pear slice.
When I think about using lavender in cooking my first thoughts are of lavender ice cream which makes me think that a creamy cocktail might be a great idea for this infusion. I thought about what would make the perfect creamy lavender cocktail and came up with this cocktail recipe -
Lavender Ice Cream Martini
Infuse vodka with Lavender Citrus infusion
Take -
30 ml of the lavender citrus infused vodka
15 ml baileys
30 ml of cream
Ice
Place all of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker and shake well, then strain into a martini glass to serve.
If you're able to get some edible grade lavender flowers to use as a garnish this cocktail would look as stunning as it tastes.
Lemongrass Mint Cocktail Infusion
This infusion combines the flavors of spearmint, lemongrass and lemon myrtle and (as with the other infusions) this cocktail infusion does come with it's own recipe book which includes this recipe -Tom Kha
1 lemongrass infuser
2oz coconut flavored rum
2 oz lemonade
½ oz fresh lime juice
Place infuser in glass.
- Pour rum over infuser and steep to desired strength.
- Combine infused rum, lime juice, lemonade into a shaker with ice, shake vigorously.
- Strain into three shot glass.
- Garnish if desired
Lemongrass and lime juice makes me think of Thailand so I thought - what about a Thai inspired cocktail? and this is what I came up with -
The Thaitini
First you need to infuse vodka with the lemongrass infuser and then take -
45 ml of lemongrass infuser
1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
Small chunk of ginger
Place the ginger into the bottom of a metal cocktail shaker and pour some of the lemongrass infuser on top, take a muddler and muddle well. Next add the rest of the lemongrass infuser, the lime juice and some ice and shake really well. Strain the liquid into a cocktail glass to serve.
A rather neat looking garnish is to add a tiny red chili into the bottom of the glass, but I must admit as much as I think it looks great I'd be worried about drinking it!
Silkroad Chai Cocktail Infusion
The Silkroad Chai is made with a black tea with the chai spices - cinnamon, ginger and cardamom.Chai White Russian
1 Silkroad Chai infuser
1 ½ oz vodka
1 oz simple syrup
2 oz light cream
- Place infuser in glass.
- Pour vodka over infuser and steep to desired strength.
- Add simple syrup, light cream and ice.
Personally I always think that cardamom and orange go well together, orange also goes well with ginger and yet cinnamon makes me think of apple so it was a little harder to come up with a recipe for this infuser.
I think the company's recipe (above) sounds like the best one, but not to be thwarted I've come up with this -
Spicy Orangetini
Infuse the silkroad chai infuser with vodka and then take -
30 ml silkroad chai infused vodka
15 ml Cointreau
Ice
Add all of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker and shake well, strain into a cocktail glass to serve.
