Coconut Derived Products

Have you ever wondered what the difference is between coconut water, coconut milk, and coconut oil? Well I have, so I started to do some reading on the subject. It turns out that people have figured out that coconuts can provide many different products with unique benefits.

Coconuts offer superb nutrition in all its many forms. Coconut meat, juice, milk and oil supplied people who lived in the tropics with a staple, extremely healthy food and drink for centuries. Fortunately, those who live in colder climes can now enjoy the healthy glow people get from coconuts. Coconut water, milk and oil all confer many health benefits to consumers, but it is good to know what each product is, what to expect from it and how to use it in daily life.

Coconut Water

Coconut water is actually coconut juice, the liquid sloshing around in the interior of the young fatty nut. A delicious drink, coconut water is sweet, clear and full of electrolytes, enzymes, vitamins, minerals and phyto-nutrients. Young coconuts are harvested at about five to seven months of age. These tender, still green coconuts produce the finest coconut water.

Coconut water is recognized as a potent treatment for diarrhea, as the water's electrolytes and minerals work to quickly re-hydrate patients. If you're prone to bladder or kidney infections, coconut water can flush out these organs, detoxifying and purifying the entire urinary system. Coconut water contains the same lauric acid as mother's milk, providing a powerful boost to your immune system. Lauric acid is known to be antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal. Coconut water is the lowest in fat of the other coconut products; it is also low in carbs and sugars, so drink freely of coconut water to enhance your health.

Coconut Milk

Coconut milk is produced by mixing coconut water and fresh coconut meat, which is then pressed to expel the milk. Rich in vitamins and minerals, coconut milk also contains medium chain fatty acids, the fatty acid type most easily recognized and used by your body. Coconut milk has saturated fat, but this fat is in the form your body loves and needs. Coconut milk is widely used in cooking by many cultures, especially Caribbean and Southeast Asian, where the milk provides scrumptious flavor as well as healthy nutrients. Use coconut milk in smoothies, rice dishes, soups and curries. It also makes a facial that soothes and softens your skin. People who cannot drink cow's milk can easily switch to the more flavorful and healthy coconut milk.

One cup of coconut milk contains protein, good fats, fiber, vitamins B, C and E and a is a rich source of potassium, potassium, selenium, calcium and iron. Consuming the milk or the liquid endosperm of the coconut palm fruit will help you maintain blood sugar levels, give you softer, smoother skin, help build strong bones, prevent heart disease, ease any joint inflammation you might have and boost your immune system. Delicious coconut milk delivers a myriad of health benefits while tasting like a dream come true.

Coconut Oil

To make coconut oil, mature coconut meat is dried, then it is heated at low temperatures while the moisture evaporates, leaving coconut oil as the residue. With pure, organic coconut oil, no other process is necessary. After decades of being put down as a saturated fat, coconut oil is finally receiving recognition as one of the healthiest oils known to man. It's the medium chain fatty acids that make all the difference. A 1981 study of South Pacific islanders noted that 60 percent of their diet consisted of coconut fat, yet these healthy, lean people had extremely low rates of cancer, heart disease, diabetes or obesity. Using coconut oil as your cooking oil will give you a real health boost, including protecting against liver damage, normalizing blood lipids, preventing gall bladder and kidney disease, heart disease and diabetes. Coconut oil, like coconut water and milk, contains lauric acid, with its ability to kill bacterial, viruses and fungi. A healthy dose of coconut oil will help you absorb minerals more efficiently from your food. Whether you ingest coconut oil or apply it topically, it will do wonders for your hair and skin.

I use coconut oil for cooking and baking. It's my permanent cooking oil now although it leaves some of my food with a slight coconut taste, I don't mind it at all, knowing that it's very beneficial. I also use the oil as a moisturizer or a hot oil hair treatment.

Hey there, I really enjoyed your blog. I could not help noticing that it is pretty similar to my coconut oil blog. I wanted to know if you would be willing to trade featured links to help each others' traffic. You see, your blog sells coconut water, which mine does not, so you would have no competition on that front. I would also be more than happy to put post a link to your blog on my other lens, which is geared toward vegan supplements. This would be great for me, as I am still attempting to get more than three page visits. Thanks!
