Now, the biggest myth concerning hypnosis is that the subject is under the complete control of the hypnotist. This is not so, for any suggestion is strictly censored. A person will not do anything under hypnosis that is against his or her will or moral standards.

Have you ever been reading a book or watching television without realizing what was going on around you? Someone may be talking to you, but you are totally unaware of their words. When traveling, have you ever gone beyond your destination or missed your exit because you were thinking of something else? A response to a mother's suggestion that a kiss will make an injured child's scraped knee feel better, are all forms of the trance state.

I have used the trance state not only on stage but in my counseling practice. I learned very early on that the trance state (which can be achieved in seconds) is the fastest way to change imprints that we have acquired since childhood. So how can the trance state help you in your situation? Though you only have one mind, your mind is made up of two distinct aspects. We have a conscious aspect which consists of about 10% of our thinking power and a subconscious aspect which consists of about 90% of our thinking power. A great analogy would be to consider your mind somewhat like an iceberg: only a small portion of the iceberg is above the water (your conscious mind) while the greatest portion of the iceberg is below the surface of the water (your subconscious mind).

The conscious mind is the rational, logical and analytical, two-plus-two is four aspect of your mind. The subconscious is the imaginative, creative and non logical aspect of your mind. Your subconscious mind also has a two fold purpose. It controls your breathing, pulse rate, blood perssure, heart beat, etc. and it seeks to meet your deepest expectations and desires. For example, if a person wants to stop smoking, the conscious mind says "stop smoking," but the subconscious mind says, "how are you going to make it through the day without a cigarette?" If 10% of your mind is telling you to stop and 90% is telling you to pick up another cigarette, you will pick up a cigarette. With hypnosis or as I like to call it the trance state, you can re-pattern your subconscious mind so that is assists you instead of blocking what you want to change.

You can use self-hypnosis to make the changes you want.

-Find a comfortable place to relax, one where you will not be disturbed for about ten minutes.

-Think about something you want, i.e. loving relationship, more money, a new home, vibrant health or whatever you want to - the sky is the limit!

-Close your eyes and bring to mind what it is that you don't have but would like to have in your life.

-Create an image of it (I like to call this technique Hypnotic Power Imaging.); visualize the setting; notice how you or others are dressed to practice the skill or outcome; notice anyone else in this image; notice your environment. The more real you can make your mental image, the more powerful it will become, translating it into a real life event. Repeat this power imaging technique again and again to give it more power and to make your image so familiar, that it feels second nature to you.

-Practice this technique every day until your dream is realized. If you find that you keep looking for results you won't find them. You must trust that when you imagine your goal or intention that it will come about without you handling the details.

-If you have trouble visualizing, choose something that you have already learned to do well. For example if you are good at a sport, cooking or repairing something, focus on this image. Now, imgaine doing whatever you do effectvely; as this will help you understand how you visualize. Then you can apply this knowledge to what you wan to acquire.

This is how simple it really all is. You have to become master of your mind and direct it toward what you want rather than being an automaton. You can drop old imprints that don't serve you! In fact scientific evidence has determined that when a person is in the hypntoic state, activity in the left brain is diminished and activity in the right brain is enhanced and when this happens the suggestions you receive (either by a hypnotist or your own self-talk) begin to take place. Therefore the key to enhancing your life is to use a form of self-hypnosis to rehearse what you want in your mind. Remember the subconscious mind cannot distinguish between what is real or imagined. Be aware of your self-talk and what you imagine for yourself because you are using the law of attraction. You must understand that this is not to be regarded as something that works most of the time, or some of the time, or not at all. You are using your subconscious mind all of the time and nothing on the face of the earth is more powerful to stop it from working. We didn't make this law so neither can we start or stop it. The law works one hundred percent of the time! It never fails. If you think success you will meet with success and by the same token if you think of failure you will meet with failure. Therefore refuse to accept fear, worry or doubt as being a part of your life. You cannot dream too big, nor aspire too high and I assure you nothing is impossible. However, you must prove this to yourself by using the technique I have described above. Blessings - Cody

The Ego Game

Revenge of the Wounded Child

© Copyright 2003 by: Cody Horton

As I was reading this book, there were two things that especially stuck out as being very important to all of our healing paths. I am going to break these two things into two separate modules. One section is called The Ego Game and the other one is called The Emotional Release Technique

The Ego Game

The ego is motivated by seeking approval, control, and safety. The power of the ego is intoxicating and addictive yet ultimately destructive. The ego keeps you in a world where you are all alone; a world where no one else can enter.

In order for the ego to survive it accepts or rejects experiences based upon past memories. The ego cannot grow because it is weak and rigid. Setting the ego and its game aside means putting memories, emotions and experiences in their proper perspective.

The ego makes us feel stuck, too fragile to bring about a good life, so we vacillate between seven emotions states. Our past memories and experiences trigger the motions we feel.

It is only when we become aware of our feelings can we access our personal power. When we get in touch with our feelings we have the ability to know what is right for us and what we really want.

E-Emptiness
G-Grief
O-Overwhelming Fear

G-Greed
A-Anger
M-Melodrama
E-Entitlement

(This is just a brief explanation)

Emptiness-When we are empty, we feel apathetic and lethargic because we believe we cannot do anything about our lives. We feel alone, we view life in black and white, and we carry the weight of the world on our shoulders. We believe there is no way out.

Grief-When we are in grief, our mind is less cluttered than in emptiness but our thoughts and emotions revolve around how much we hurt.

Overwhelming Fear-We become paralyzed and are afraid to take any kind of risk. Our thinking tends to be predominately negative. We feel trapped and want to escape; we are in a constant state of uncertainty so we feel insecure.

Greed-When we are stuck in greed mode, we can never get filled. Our wants are endless, we never feel satisfied, and so we can never enjoy what we have.

Anger-Being stuck in anger all we want to do is strike out, hurt and stop others. Because we do not like how we feel we want to vent and transfer these feelings to someone or something else. Anger gets us moving, and unfortunately most of the time it is not for our best interest. Anger clouds our judgment so we make decisions that later on we wished we would have waited.

Melodrama-We get caught up in our story telling. Identifying with our stories keeps us locked in the past, that maybe we are trying to forget, to overcome, to recover from or to live up to.

Entitlement-This is when we are stuck in the mode where we think the world owes us a living, narrow minded and take on the attitude that we are better than others. We feel we are more deserving than others because someone has "done us wrong!"

Albert Einstein is noted as saying,

"You can't find a solution using the same mind that created the problem!"

In other words you cannot find a solution if you are focused on the problem.

The Emotional Release Technique (TM)

Revenge of the Wounded Child

Most of the time it takes us accepting our past experiences and facing them in order to do any kind of healing work. I will be the first to admit that I HATED having to accept some of the things I went through. I hate carrying around the feelings of abandonment, sexual abuse, physical abuse and also abusing others. I hate admitting some of the things I had to do to survive in a world that I did not feel a part of. But with all of these experiences buried deep within my subconscious mind, they do affect my current life.

I have been working on cleaning up my spiritual subconscious for a very long time now. When I read what Cody wrote about anger, it seemed as if she wrote that just for me hypothetically speaking. I know just by reading her Emotional Release Technique (TM) that if I would have known about that back twenty five-thirty years ago, I honestly believe I would be further on my own Spiritual Path. Do you know sometimes you can read a whole book and there may be only one thing you keep and use from it? Well, within the first chapter of this book I was able to read things that kept me going in through the whole book and I know I will use many of the suggestions in it.

The following technique can be purchased on a CD that Cody has recorded for $25 if anyone would like to purchase it. Visit her web site at: Cody Horton

The Emotional Release Technique (TM)

-Find a comfortable place to relax, one where you will not be disturbed for a few minutes.

-Take a deep breath and exhale.

-Bring up an unwanted feeling; one that keeps you stuck or one that you do not like.

-Identify the feeling

-Now, bring your attention to your solar plexus area (the place just about your navel and below your chest)

-Imagine a window or a door in this area. Open the door or the window and just imagine the unwanted feeling bursting out through this area like a powerful geyser.

-Now ask yourself, can I let go of the resistance to this feeling? More and more and more.

-Continue imagining the energy bursting out through your solar plexus more and more and more. Continue to do this until the unwanted energy is gone.

Now ask yourself:

Does this feeling bring up wanting approval?
Does this feeling bring up wanting control?
Does this feeling bring up wanting safety?

Now ask yourself:

Can I let go of wanting approval?
Can I let go of wanting control?
Can I let go of wanting to feel safe?

When you want something, it is translated into our subconscious mind that we lack. When you let go of the wanting you let go of focusing on the lack and then you will have what you desire.

-Continue to feel your feelings as you ask yourself the above set of questions.

-Continue to do this technique for as long as it takes for you to drain the negativity and you feel completely calm and serene.

I have written about my connection with "Water Spirits" on my other lenses. To me water is one healing method I use constantly, well I wanted to try this technique so I tried this while I was in the shower and it was an amazing experience for me! As the feeling I was releasing left my solar plexus it was also being washed down the drain (symbolically for me as being totally gone).

I believe by taking just a few moments everyday to do this technique will benefit you so much on many levels both Spiritually and Physically.

We are beautiful and pure as a Rose

Walking the way of Spirit means walking in detachment. In detachment lies true freedom and when you release your attachments you release your pain and illusions; in other words you have now become a free person.

Letting go of the struggle, the anger and the fear can only happen by adopting the qualities of Spirit, which are love, trust and responsibility.
