Certifiable Coffee Addiction.......Embrace It

When I say I am a coffee addict, I mean it. No joke. Yes I love coffee but on the negative side (if you see it that way), I actually get sick if I don't have it! I would give up a lot of things before I gave up coffee.

I embrace my coffee addiction!

I think there are worse things to be addicted to, so if coffee is my vice...then bring it on!

On a serious note...

Signs of coffee addiction...

Excerpt from Coffee Addiction Signs written by Rachel Mork

"While many food and drink items contain caffeine, brewed coffee is the beverage that typically contains the most caffeine per ounce. Many medications, such as appetite suppressants and pain medications, also contain caffeine, often in higher doses than a cup of coffee. You may not realize how much caffeine you are consuming each day, especially if you are dependant on coffee, carbonated sodas and appetite suppressants. The amount of caffeine consumed can become staggering, causing heart palpitations and an actual physical dependence on the stimulant.

If you are addicted to caffeine, you probably exhibit the following signs of caffeine withdrawal whenever you do not have access to coffee, carbonated sodas or appetite suppressants:

* Mood changes: You probably respond to lack of caffeine with a grouchy mood and a low patience level.

* General malaise: You may get severe headaches, stomachaches, nausea and vomiting when you do not get enough caffeine.

* Mental dullness: You may become irritated easily and feel unable to think clearly because you feel dull-headed or foggy-minded.

Because caffeine is quickly absorbed into the bloodstream and affects your body within minutes of consumption, you may feel immediately better after you drink a cup of coffee, setting you up for a dependence on caffeine, if not an addiction. The effects of caffeine linger for hours until your body excretes it all from the bloodstream, making it a tempting stimulant."

Help Me Settle a Debate!

When I start getting a headache and nausea from lack of caffeine...only coffee will do. Tea and pop do not work for me that way. Only hot coffee will work to make me feel better immediately.

So my friends and family say that it is all in my head. They say that "There is no more caffeine in a cup of coffee than there is in a glass of tea and you should feel better with any of these drinks"

Well I sure beg to differ. I think that there is most certainly something in coffee, whether it be the temperature or an ingredient that solves my temporary caffeine withdrawal.

So please..help me settle this debate!! Any other coffee addicts out there who are only satisfied with coffee??

Is there a difference between coffee, tea and pop when it comes to a caffeine addiction??

newbizmau says:

Way more caffeine in coffee. That's why it's the most profitable and most consumed beverage in the world. The flip side is it's actually healthy for you, but because of the caffeine should be consumed in moderation. So only feel half bad about this addiction. There are 1/2 caffeine coffee brands at least for those afternoon cups.

ajgodinho says:

I think each one of us is different in the way we react to anything, in this case, coffee. So yes I believe there is a difference, though the psyche also plays a role, but is not everything.

TulsaTees says:

Don't discount the flavor and aroma of coffee, too! Very important for the stimulating effects that it has on the brain. I rather think such stimulation begins to happen before you even swallow the coffee, especially if it's fresh-brewed. But as for caffeine content -- as I understand it, coffee *usually* has more caffeine than does tea, but a lot depends on the type of coffee bean (or the type of tea it's being compared to) as well as the method of preparation.

whitepinestudios says:

I know for a fact that when I drink that first cup of hot Joe in the morning, I most certainly feel the jolt of caffeine that we all know and love. Thank you Juan Valdez!

Stuff I Don't Like Reading...

But I do anyway.....

Excerpt from All4Women by Dr. J Mercola

Why you need to kick your coffee habit

"Coffee contains no vitamins, minerals, or enzymes

Why has a substance which places an enormous metabolic burden on your body and offers no nutritional value at all - no vitamins, no minerals, no enzymes - become so widely used throughout the world?"

Coffee is NOT good for you

The simple fact that remains however is that, coffee is not good for you and it's not a health food, as some published reports would have you believe. There are much better, less risky ways to achieve any professed benefits of coffee consumption. Don't use pro-coffee reports or propaganda as an excuse to hang onto your coffee habit!

The truth: coffee can wreck your health

Among the typical health claims about coffee is it decreases the risk of developing certain cancers and diabetes. However, it increases your risk for stomach cancer and leukemia. Just like with most drugs, there are perceived benefits - and then there are the side effects which often render the "cure" worse than the disease.

Coffee can also:

* Interfere with your body's ability to use water, and promote fluid loss
* Raise your cholesterol
* Send your insulin levels out of control
* Contribute to rheumatoid arthritis and stroke
* Damage your blood vessels
* Increase your risk of heart disease

Coffee interferes with your body's ability to use folate, and vitamins B12 and B6. Your body needs these nutrients in order to keep your homocysteine level in the healthy range. Elevated homocysteine levels are associated with a wide range of serious, even life-threatening conditions.

I love coffee too, but am not an addict ~ one of the main reasons is that my body can't take too much of it. I hate anything to be controlling my life (so to speak), so I take everything (ok almost everything) in moderation! Happy New Year! **Blessed by a Squid-Angel**

Love coffee! You are not alone. My wife and I went 100% French press at home last year, and I recently got a travel press on my birthday. "Office coffee" just isn't cutting it anymore. Now I'm actually considering getting a grinder...
Love Albuquerque, too. My daily coffee mug, by the way, is from Old Town.
