How is French Press Coffee Made?

A short and simple explanation.

French press coffee is made using a cylindrical device usually made of glass or plastic (see image above). Course ground coffee is placed in the press along with boiling water. The coffee and brewing water are left together for a few minutes. When the coffee is ready, the plunger, which is equipped with a mesh or screen, is pushed down to trap the coffee grounds at the bottom of the vessel. A pouring spout at the top is then used to remove the liquid coffee into a mug. The result: a fine cup of coffee that is typically stronger than most. French press coffee will also have more sediment than drip brewed coffees.

Always check the french press instructions that come with your carafe.

Enjoy!
