If you've ever been addicted to dieting, or have chronically failed on diets, you know how frustrating a life of dieting can be.
But what many folks don't know is that binge eating, compulsive overeating, diet addiction, and other eating disorders all arise from and are exacerbated by distorted thinking.
If you have food issues, you might believe such things as:
1. You MUST lose the weight right away
2. You are not acceptable as you are
3. You lack willpower, which normal eaters seem to have
4. You are too dysfunctional to eat normally like other folks
5. You will always have to eat diet food in order to be thin
6. I must count fat grams or calories in order not to overeat
But if you take a close look at each belief, you'll see that each is faulty. The truth is that there's a normal, more natural way to eat small amounts of every kind of food, and be satisfied. Dieting is unnecessary.
Hard to believe? That's where cognitive therapy comes in. Diets actually make it harder to ever quit them, because, like a cult, they demand allegiance to certain beliefs.
