Cook Islands Coins

Cook Islands authorizes quite a few collectable coins, and has them produced by large, prestigious mints. Many of its coins are minted by the New Zealand Mint, others by the Perth Mint, and yet there are many more.

These coins are often cutting edge in coin design, utilizing a multitude of innovations. Some are three dimensional, some have inserts that can be removed from a nesting place and inserted into a base that consists of the rest of the coin. The Orbiter coins have an outer ring that can be rotated about a central disk. Swarovski crystals have been used. And one technique unique to Cook Islands coinage is the insertion of a window!

I have some great Cook Islands coins - a triangular coin that was in circulation when I went there in 1995 - and a coin which features Queen Elizabeth II on one side and a fertility God on the other!!!!

I also ended up with a rare 3 dollar note.
