Colchester Community

Colchester has numerous museums. The Castle Museum is based within Colchester Castle (pictured right) and features a broad exhibit on Roman Colchester. Close to this is the Hollytrees Museum which is a social history museum and has children's exhibits, as well as in the town's Natural History Museum. There is a clock museum in Colchester called Tymperley's Clock Museum and is located in the town centre.

Colchester is great for arts, it has the impressive Colchester Arts Centre which is a multi-function venue and is home of the local Beer Festival. Next door is the Mercury Theatre which is one of the region's leading repertory theatres. There is also a new gallery that is currently under construction. There are also other venues in Colchester that hold live music events such as The Twist and the Charter Hall.

Sport

Colchester is home to Colchester United football club, who play in the Coca-Cola League One, which is the third tier of English football. They play their home games at the Colchester Community Stadium. It is also home to Colchester United Ladies who play their football in the FA Women's Premier League Southern Division. As well as playing their home games at the Colchester Community Stadium, they also play at Stanway Rovers FC's Hawthorns.

The other sports teams in Colchester include Colchester RFC, Colchester Gladiators American Football Club, Colchester and East Essex Cricket Club and the Colchester Weight Lifting Club. Essex Count Cricket Club play a lot of their home games at Casle Park Cricket Ground which is where the other two local cricket clubs play their home games. Local sports facilities include Colchester Leisure World, and Colchester Garrison Athletics Stadium.
