Originally created by Allaire Corporation and first released in 1995, ColdFusion application server had five solid releases behind it when Allaire was acquired by Macromedia. The next version, MX or version 6, which had been in development for long before the merger, constituted a complete rewrite of the platform, from C++ to Java.
Macromedia released version 7, and was then acquired by Adobe Corporation in late 2005. Version 8, codenamed Scorpio, in under development as of August 2006.
