Collect Energy From The Natural Resources= Maximum Self-sufficiency at Home
If you want to collect energy from the natural resources at home, you may consider yourself to be a believer in a sustainable and responsible lifestyle. Sustainable, self sufficient living is a way of life whose goal is to reduce one`s carbon footprint on the earth.
To reduce your own impact on the earth, popular ways you may have considered or put into action are
1) Switch transportation methods to reduce carbon emissions, bike, walk or bus it instead
2) Save energy by converting your home to solar power or wind power
3) Stop eating animals. If in a typical city of 250 000 everyone stops eating meat for only one day each week, we would save as much CO2 in a year as taking half a million cars off the road.* (McLeans.ca See Link List for full article)
If your goal is to lead your life in a sustainable way and you are reading this article, you came for information about collecting energy from natural resources such as the sun, the soil and the wind. This lens will focus on solar power and how you can convert your home to solar power in the cheapest way possible and help you live consistently with your belief in sustainable living, in a natural balance with Mother Earth.

Collect Energy From The Natural Resources: Solar Power Shines!
I`m sure you`ve thought of using solar energy to power your home . When you collect energy from the natural resources, solar power is a natural choice. Harnessing the power of the sun to make electricity is becoming more and more popular as people are more and more interested in becoming self sufficient at home. Many are tired of the Hydro Company charging for delivery then surtax on the delivery and a tax fo this and that...where does it end with the Hydro company?Do you want to take control of the energy requirements.this year as a 2011 resolution?
It is very possible to make the conversion in a short amount of time and then never have to pay the hydro company again!
You can even sell your extra power to the Hydro Company if you are so inclined:)
"The Two typical methods for converting solar energy into electricity are
1)photo-voltaic cells that are organized into panels and
2)concentrated solar power, which uses mirrors to concentrate sunlight to either heat a fluid that runs an electrical generator via a steam turbine or heat engine, or to simply cast onto photo-voltaic cells".[Wikipedia]
The power generated by the most popular solar panels is a direct current and has to be converted to alternating current before it can be used in a home. Most owners of solar panels store this direct current energy in batteries for storage for a later use. You can run laptops, tvs, kitchen appliances, radio, by simply connecting to an AC/DC inverter for immediate use.
For maximum efficiency when the solar power shines upon your panels, you should make sure you place them at an angle between 20-50 degrees. The roof is usually the best area to install solar panels since it receives the most sunlight and heat every day.
How Much Will Collecting Energy From The Sun Cost?
The price to get set up with solar power vary quite dramatically. The most expensive way is to buy commercial ready to use photo-voltaic cells...unless you get a great local deal on some lightly used solar panels! The pre-made solar panels are however falling in price in many local do it yourself stores since technology advances constantly and public demands more solar panels and accessories. The best choice I have found to equip my household with solar power was to make my own!
It`s not as difficult as you would think. I found an online training tool that allowed me to know exactly what to get, how to assemble my panels and how to set up my home for collecting energy from the sun.The videos in this short course guided me step by step. Of course I had a little bit of help and guidance from my mechanically inclined husband ! LOL!
Anyways, if you want to collect energy from the natural resources by harnessing the power of the sun to light and energize your home, check out this video to see if this would be right for you and your energy dreams. Wishing you solar power that shines upon your life in 2011!

- We have a new high-efficiency heat pump and wood stove to supplement our solar heat at one home; at the other we have a very efficient weather tight home and are planning to add a greenhouse on the south-facing side and a wood-burning stove.
