A collection of my Bible People
Bible characters, real people
The characters we find here, Bible characters, are not "goody, goody" people who always get things right. They are people just like us who struggle with life's problems. It was not easy for Ruth to leave the only land she had known to go with Naomi. It was not easy for Naaman to go back to his country proclaiming his new found trust in the God of Israel. These were indeed real people with real problems. The God who was with them is still waiting for us to ask him in to be the captain of our lives, to take us through the storms we meet.
There are two main sorts of characters, good and bad. I usually have written about the good characters, but there are good reasons to look at the bad too. I will be doing that as I progress through the Bible. Bad characters are there so that we can see how we can avoid their mistakes. Of course the good characters also make mistakes and when we see them repent and gain forgiveness it encourages us to look for forgiveness too. There is much to be learnt from our Bibles; we would be well-advised to read them more often and more thoroughly.

Much more than a Bible character
Naaman, rich and famous but ill
What did Jesus say about Naaman?
In your Bible at Luke 4 verse 27 you can see what Jesus has to say about Naaman. Also you can find it in the link below. Naaman was a non -Jew. The pharisees who were Jewish leaders at the time were shocked when Jesus pointed out to them that in Naaman's time there were many Jews who were lepers and yet it was Naaman the non-Jew whom God healed using Elisha. Jesus was always pointing out that God cared about the outcasts and foreigners. He was not speaking against the Jewish nation only against their leaders at the time who were bound up in religiousity and cared nothing for the needy even in their own community.

Ruth, a Bible character, with a faithful heart
Ruth
came from a land where child sacrifice was practised. What a blessing to go to Israel and be free of this. Her little son would not face that danger.

Ruth and Boaz: Strangers in the Land
Amazon Price: $13.95 (as of 05/30/2012)![]()
This book is one I haven't read yet, but it is on my list of ones to read. On my Ruth lens you will find a video of an interview with the author. She has obviously researched the times in which Ruth lived and it is from this that we can see how brave Ruth was to go to Israel and throw in her lot with those people. This was one very brave woman. They were very different days from ours and a woman was dependent on her immediate tribe. In those days it was not possible to live a life independent of others.Ruth took a great risk when she went with Naomi. She had to gain acceptance with her new people.

A Great Adventurer
Do you think Bible stories Matter Today?
Are Bible Stories Important For Today?

Yes, we can still learn a lot from Bible Stories.
beaworkathomemom says:
Always.
ajgodinho says:
Like you said, we can learn from every person, circumstance and story, so yes, I do believe that they are indeed relevant today. All one needs to have is an open mind and heart to receive.
naheedahsan says:
Definitely yes!
says:
The Bible is always important! It is relevant and has the power to change lives - I have seen it happen many times! God used his word to change my boyfriend and I am continually seeing him change as he reads and studies the Bible! God can improve our lives through His Word if we let Him. It's a choice to read the Bible - we should always chose YES!
Tipi says:
Definitely yes!
COUNTRYLUTHIER says:
Absolutely. In an anything goes world, ethical standards, standing when others do what is easy, many biblical characters and figures often stood when facing overwhelming odds. There is much to be learned by those willing to follow the examples of men and women in Bible Stories.
LizMac60 says:
Just to start you off on this debate here is my opinion. I believe Bible stories are vitally important, even if you are an atheist, because they contain ancient wisdom which is still important for us today.Human nature does not change so we can learn from jealous brothers or faithful friendships. Do look into them for yourself.
No, I think they are irrelevant.

How would you expect Bible Characters to be?
Would you think they were all straight-laced and holy? Although many of them became holy and devoted to God, they didn't start off that way. They were people who made mistakes just like you and me. In the Bible you can find murderers like Paul and adulterers like David. One main character started out as a prostitute. Samson was a womanizer and Moses was a murderer. My word what a sordid bunch. But it's all for a good reason. It's to show us what God can do with poor material. It's to show us that God wants to save us from sin and only He can do this and mould us into the people we wish we could be. The Bible is an amazing book, it portrays its characters as they really were and doesn't gloss over the mistakes of the heroes of the faith. I tell you it's a book worth reading.

Bible Reading
How often do you read your Bible?

Regularly
ajgodinho says:
I enjoy reading the Bible because I derive so much strength and wisdom from it. Now of course, getting revelation is a different matter all together because that can only come from the Spirit of God.

- It is refreshing to see other Christians on Squidoo. I just wish they would highlight the reason for the season instead of bunny rabbits and Easter eggs. I was always intrigued by Elizabeth. She was too old to have children and Gabriel appeared to her before he appeared to Mary. Elizabeth knew of the Savior's birth before Mary. I have Squid Angel blessed this lens!
