Buttons are fun to collect...

Collecting buttons can be a great hobby. Some rare buttons are actually very valuable. Buttons hold your shirt closed and keep your pants from falling off. Some buttons have messages or slogans on them. You can sew them, you can collect them, you can use them in crafts, or simply keep them to have something to play with on a boring rainy day.

I love the look of buttons. I love the feel of them. Buttons are bright and colorful. Some buttons are shiny, some are cold, some are warm, and no matter what they are all beautiful.

Some people push buttons at work or are annoying enough to push other people's buttons. Collecting rare buttons can be a very interesting hobby but I just collect buttons because they fascinate me. This is a peek at a few of the buttons that exist in my world. I hope you enjoy your visit.

Words are one of the most powerful tools that we have. They have the power to hurt and they have the power to heal. They explain how people feel when they are happy, sad, or angry, how things work when they work or why they don't when they won't.

The written word has the power to change the opinions of its reader and it can alter the direction of that persons life or lifestyle. It can cause the reader to laugh, cry, or to feel an empathy or emotion toward someone that they normally would not....Write it out.

I have loads of buttons. My collection started at my grandmother. As a child I used to play with them. Then they were habded over to my mother and now I have got them.

I also remember playing with my mom's buttons and I too wound up with her button collection. There sure are some very unique old buttons when you really start looking through the lot of them. Thank you so much for sharing your memories.

Thanks for the blessings, they are always appreciated.

My mother kept her buttons in a old cake tin. I too would play with them for hours. It would be fun remembering the old clothes some came off or making up stories about the other ones. I would use them to adorn my dolls clothes and other craft projects. I still have the cake tin and it has some newer buttons in them also. I still like going through them thinking of projects I could do with some of them.

Lol...it is truly amazing how many of us have the old buttons handed down to us from our parents. I love them.

I have my grandmother's button jar, full of different kinds of buttons. I played with those buttons for hours when I was growing up. They bring back many happy memories of learning needle crafts and sewing with my grandmother.

My mother inherited a collection from my grandmother, she has beautiful old coin and silver buttons so I've always loved looking at old ones. Blessed by an angel!
  • asiliveandbreathe Nov 28, 2010 @ 3:35 am | delete
I have a jar (or two!) too, including some vintage buttons. I plan to use them when I knit or crochet, but I've seen attractive necklaces made of old buttons so maybe I'll try that too.
  • good4us_all Nov 23, 2010 @ 12:35 am | delete
What a cute lens! It's exciting to look at all the different types of buttons - there's such a great variety. Nice job!!!

I loved playing with Mum's button collection when I was little. Now I have a huge collection of my own to share with grandkids. Buttons in a jar or tin remind me of treasure ... so much fun to sort and plunder!

I have to join in with my Grandmother's button tin. Brings back fond memories.
  • poddys Oct 19, 2010 @ 12:37 am | delete
This is a really cool lens. Growing up my grandmother had a metal tin that was full of buttons like this, because years ago you tried to re-use things as much as you could and never threw anything out, and so all the buttons you found or didn't need went into this tin, and there were some fascinating designs.

I have zero understanding in the identification and value of buttons, however when I saw a giant pickle jar in a yard sale full of interesting buttons for just $3 I had to buy it. An hour later, and one town over, I was at a different sale and a woman asked if they had any buttons. She said no, but I said that I did. She looked at the jar and immediately offered me $20. As fast as she said that, I knew there must be something worth something in there so I said I really was looking for $30. She bought without hesitation. I don't know what was in that jar, but I knew I didn't have it in me to find out. I was happy with my 1000% profit and she was happy with her buttons.
  • GrowWear Apr 29, 2010 @ 8:28 pm | delete
As a child, my grandma's button jar was endlessly fascinating. Love your images. :)
  • BrianS Oct 18, 2009 @ 12:17 pm | delete
There is nothing wrong with buttons and you have found some great ones here. Don't let small children play with them however because they put them in some very strange places including places that can restrict air flow.
  • HorseAndPony Oct 8, 2009 @ 2:01 pm | delete
We collect buttons. My daughter and I make all types of crafts with them. Loved your button lens.

Let Your Endorphins Out To Play

When you participate in pleasurable activities like smiling, laughing, exercising or playing, your brain does an amazing thing and releases a little chemical message known as an endorphin.

These endorphins are feel good messages that have the power to actually remove physical and emotional pain. They travel down the spine, and then throughout your body, sending a feeling of well being as they go. These endorphins not only have the ability to relieve pain but they also have the power to make you feel happy.
